The idea of being perfect is reinforced to us over and over to the point that we are trained to want perfection. We then often live our lives in comparison, never enjoying who we are and what we have.  Instead of buying into being perfect, we need to buy into loving ourselves and enjoying our lives.

Life is always changing and in that nothing stays the same, perfection is always running ahead of us.  If we believe in perfection, we will never be happy. We will always feel dissatisfied. Certainly, advertisers want you to believe there is perfection that you can attain, when you pay for their product. They can, they say, make your hair better, your skin better, you can be more perfect with this car, that pair of shoes, those sunglasses.

After all a satisfied person has no need to buy anything.  If you are satisfied with your TV, you do not buy a new one.  If you believe your life will be more perfect if you have that TV then you feel you must get it. And the next one and the next one.

The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself. - Anna Quindlen

How many family outings are ruined trying to be the perfect family?  How many dinners not enjoyed because the person who prepared it didn’t think it was perfect?  How many relationships lost because there must be someone else more perfect?

What is the cost of perfection?  I have had too many women clients come to me with anorexic or bulimic challenges because of body image issues as they strive for perfection.  Whose perfection are we chasing anyway?  What effect does perfection have on our children? Making a child feel completely perfect just the way they are is one of the best things you can do to reinforce positive self-esteem.

The ideas of what is perfect are sold to us.  The idea that image, things, and a certain life style are what are perfect is not a set norm. Different cultures and different people adopt their own definition of perfect.

I want us to redefine for ourselves what we define as perfect.  Let’s adopt the idea of finding happiness in our every day and enjoying the people in our lives as perfect. Love who you are and who you are with.

Love isn't finding a perfect person. It's seeing an imperfect person perfectly.

                                                                                                                          - Sam Keen

Can you strive for more?

Yes!

Can you improve your life?

Yes!

Will you ever be perfect?

If you love your self, you are!

This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections.

                                                                                                              - Saint Augustine

Live not in comparison but in fulfillment of who you are and whom you are with. Then every day is perfect day in your life.

Believing that you are perfect,

Yes, we all are perfect, if we allow ourselves to love thy self.

Yeah, I resonate with the idea that in striving for perfection, we are always comparing ourselves with others and wanting what we don't have... that's me :)
