I Don’t Like Mondays

Ugh! You know that feeling Monday morning when that alarm goes off and you are facing another week and you just go “UGH!” The first thought that goes through your mind is, “I don’t like Mondays.’ Come on, you can admit it. Trust me, it is okay, we have all been there. I can’t think of a person I know that at some point did not think that.
Maybe you are feeling that way today. Since Monday can be such a tough day for so many why did I choose Monday as the day for my Inspiration? After all, if I would release an Inspiration on a Friday, every one would be excited and start their weekend fired up. So why Monday? Why on a day where for the most part no one is in the mood, or maybe even receptive?
I remember a summer morning back in 1979. I was living in New Hampshire then and attending Aviation College. I was working hard and every week was high pressure.
I remember how grateful I was when Friday rolled around and how tough it was at times to face Monday. I often would think how I did not like Mondays.
So there I was asleep in bed, with my clock radio alarm set to a music station. Here was a Monday morning, the alarm went off and I smiled and laughed as the lyrics to the song that came on was “I don’t like Mondays.” I thought that was funny, and it was exactly what I was thinking.
I start singing along with the chorus and really getting into it,
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
I want to shoot
the whole day down.
As I got up singing and smiling and repeating the sentiment that I really don’t like Mondays the song came to an end, and the DJ went on to say, “That was “I don’t like Mondays” by the Boomtown Rats.”
He explained the song was written about a 16-year-old girl in San Diego, Brenda Ann Spencer. She lived across the street from a school playground, and fired a rifle at children playing. She killed two adults, injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her actions and her explanation for what she did was, “I don’t like Mondays.”
Wow, I was shocked. It really made an impact on me. I decided then never to approach a Monday thinking that way. As I developed my career and thus Toolstolife.com, I wanted to inspire others to get excited about their lives and take charge of each week as an exciting opportunity to create positive changes. I don’t want anyone feeling like the week and his or her life is one big drag. There is no reason to. You can create positive changes, you can. I want to start your week by inspiring you to do just that.
Inspiration is an important word and there is a reason why we use that in Tools To Life. The Latin route of inspiration means to breathe into. That is the goal, to give you a new breath of hope. For you to take that breath and get into action and really create changes in your life.
We want to be the wind in your sails that blows you in the direction of your dreams. So give up those thoughts like, “I don’t like Mondays,” and get excited. Get excited because you have an opportunity this week to make positive changes. I know you can do it, I know you can!
Blowing positive energy towards you,
Devlyn Steele
