Feel Like a Million for a Few Bucks
Michael Laurance The Wealth Coach
An essential step in achieving any goal is to recognize and celebrate the successes along the way. Whether this is a long-standing goal or a New Year’s Resolution, setting incremental goals and celebrating their achievement will make you feel even more successful, and boost your motivation to continue on your path to success!
Here are some of the Feel Great methods I use and recommend to my clients: Enjoy!
-Buy a bottle of special shampoo. It does not have to be expensive, nor does it have to be fancy. I love using one of the tropical varieties of Suave. I love the fragrance of the strawberry and vanilla products, and I use them to jump-start my day. Typically, you can buy wonderful shampoo like this for a few dollars a bottle. It is well worth it as it gives me a special feeling as I start the day. THAT is what we are after! That feel-good feeling.
-Next hair cut, ask to have it shampooed first. Believe me, the five dollars or so is WELL worth it! Even better, tip your shampooer an extra five for a wonderful scalp massage as you get your hair washed. BETTER STILL, use this as a bonding experience with your partner: take turns washing hair for the other, and luxuriate in the great feelings and closeness this brings.
-Linger an extra five minutes in the shower. I just love the feeling of hot water cascading over me. . (I admit it. I cheat. This is when I floss my teeth!)
-Buy a five-dollar bottle of fragrant body scrub. Use it as a reward for hitting your goals. YOU ARE WORTH IT!
-Buy a decent tasting mouthwash. There are many now on the market that do not taste like… well, I don’t know how to describe the taste of most mouthwash. When you taste a refreshing taste, you’ll know you earned the upgrade!
-Use one of those fancy six-dollar toothbrushes with all the crazy angles and colors. Splurge!
-Okay, another confession! When I do something great, I steal my daughter’s watermelon flavored toothpaste and scrub away. It is such a welcome change, especially at five a.m.; it reminds me that something is different! It cements in my mind that I have done something noteworthy!
-If you love coffee, buy a half pound of the most decadent flavored coffee you can imagine like Jamaica Almond Fudge nut Cream. Or, buy one of those sugar free bottles of flavorings like cookies and cream. As a special treat, make something special to recognize your success. You do not have to drink freeze-dried, or that horrible stuff at work, forever, you know.
-If you are really daring, buy a three-dollar canister of low fat whipped cream. Use this in that special coffee drink. Or, be creative: It tastes great in a glass of Coke, Pepsi, or Root Beer. Even diet sodas! (Another confession: when I do something truly outstanding, I have been known to do a “shot” of whipped cream right from the can! My kids love it and think it is hysterical! Again, it drives home for me that something good has happened!)
-Next time you go out for lunch to your favorite fast food place…get two of what you normally get. Give the second lunch to a homeless person (usually hanging around the fast food joints or at the local highway off ramp). If you want to feel even better, just get one and give it away, and get yourself a piece of fruit instead!
Importantly, we have to watch what type of reward we use to celebrate our successes. Rewarding weight loss with a high calorie meal is counter productive. Same thing if you are trying to break a chocolate, caffeine, sugar, carbohydrate, or soda habit. It is important to pick rewards that make you notice a difference, fix in your mind that you are succeeding, yet do not conflict with your goal. Feel free to substitute any and all ideas above, or to add and create your own. These are your goals, and only you will know how best to celebrate your successes, and keep them coming!

Nice ideas! Thanks! :)
