Grow Sprouts: Good For You, Good For the Earth

Dreams are today's answers to tomorrow's questions.  -Edgar Cayce

Sprouts are among the most nutritious foods available. The sprouting process is unique in that it involves the brief cultivation of a seed, be it from a sunflower, lima bean, or radish, until it reaches a just few centimeters in height or a few days of age. At this crucial point of development, the young, thriving plant is loaded with enough enzymes, antioxidants, trace minerals, and protein to support just about the most active lifestyle or the toughest health condition.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that broccoli sprouts have powerful anti cancer properties. There is something about harvesting a plant that’s just a couple of days old that helps it retain so many incredible healing properties. These doctors in fact isolated one particular nutrient called sulforaphane, which greatly enhances the antioxidant health stimulating benefits of vitamins C and E.

Let’s look at some of the benefits sprouting offers us:

Growing your own sprouts means having fresh organic vegetables every day from a square foot of counter space. Common seeds for sprouting include alfalfa, fenugreek, peas, lentils, radish, red clover, broccoli, cabbage, mustard seed, garbanzo, and quinoa.

Growing sprouts is economic. Seeds can multiply up to eight to fifteen times their weight, costing as little as a quarter for a pound of fresh sprouts.

Sprouts are nutritious. They have a greater concentration of nutrients that battle toxins, resist cancer cell growth, and invigorate the body's immune system than at any other point in the plant's life.

Sprouts are 100% natural and chemical-free. No pesticides, fumigants or synthetic fertilizers.

Grow spouts anytime, anywhere--in your kitchen, or on your porch or balcony.

Growing sprouts is easy and takes only a few minutes of care per day. Just add water. No special lights are required. One pound can grow in only twelve inches of space if you set up correctly.

Sprouts are fresh, immediately. No loss of nutrients sitting in warehouses or on grocery store shelves.

Sprouts are easily digestible. Abundant enzymes make them easy to digest even for those with a weak digestion.

Growing sprouts is ecologically sound. No airplanes, fuel or oil are consumed to deliver them to you. No synthetic fertilizers or petroleum-based pesticides enter the water table or pollute the air.

Sprouts are great when added to salads, juiced with other vegetables, or as quick snacks.

Remember to refrigerate finished sprouts. Ideally you want to eat them the day they are picked. Treat sprouts just as you would any nutritious food, and refrigerate until used. Happy sprouting!

Healthiest regards,

Dr. Carlos

Sprouting is whats helping me to add the protein (like lentils) I need while eating Raw fruit and veg. And it really makes digestion of lentils real easy. i.e the usually associated symptoms of eating lentils are no longer there. Just awesome.
