Mastering Your Makeover Mindset

Weight loss begins in the mind.  When embarking on a body makeover endeavor set yourself up for a favorable outcome and prepare your psyche in a positive manner.  Realize that your mental outlook will largely determine the outcome you receive.  When you adopt a positive mental mindset you increase your chances of success and empower those around you.  Learn to approach your new nutritional and exercise habits with joy and your rate of weight loss success will skyrocket.  Approach from a place based in fear, dread, or annoyance and your chances for success drastically decrease.

 

When you set out to take care of your body you are feeding your soul with positive messages. Obviously you are aware that something needs to change and you are actively taking steps to change it. This is empowering behavior. You are internally confirming a sense of self worth and love. This is a great place to begin.  Launch yourself off with optimism but also take note of any resistance offered by your thoughts.  Keep track of those thoughts in a small journal. Learn to identify any blocks or negative beliefs that may be in your way.  Once you become aware of the blocks, you can move one step closer to eradicating them.  An example of a typical “block” might be “I don’t have enough time to do this program,” or “I have so far to go… how have I let things get so bad!”  Upon identification, employ a technique that will help you release these self-defeating beliefs.  First you must say, “I release this belief right now and let it go.” Second, you should replace the old belief with a new empowering belief such as “I deserve to live in the healthy body of my dreams.”

 

Focus on the end result more than the actual process. This requires you to hold an image of your new body in your mind’s eye. Visualize your ideal figure and gradually add motion to your “mental movie.” Adding motion has been proven to help engrain the image into your subconscious.  Perhaps you can see yourself trying on an outfit that you like, or running into an old friend who compliments your improved physique.  Finally, inject powerful emotion into your vision.  This requires you to feel (on an emotional level) the experience as you are picturing it.  Ask yourself, “How will I feel when I have the body of my dreams?”  Next, fill in the blank. The sense of joy, exhilaration, and confidence that you go through helps your brain to perceive this action as an actual event (rather than imagined).  Your brain does not distinguish between this made up experience and one happening in reality. Learn to focus your eyes on the prize and soon, the body of your dreams will become your new reality.
