New Year Resolutions: Can They Really Happen?
Resolve: To determine or decide in purpose; to make ready in mind; to fix; to settle
Will this year be the year? Will it be the year where you achieve real change in your life?
Year after year as we come to the end of the year, we tend to get reflective of what we achieved during the year. As we reflect, we often regret not having achieved more. If we do not regret we still say that next year we will achieve more.
With that in our minds, we begin to make New Year resolutions. Even those I meet that say that they do not make New Year resolutions and don’t believe in them, often secretly do make them. We cannot help it as the year clock turns, to think to ourselves that this year is the year we will do this or that. So, it does not matter weather you make them or not, they are still there.
There is a simple reason why they are there. They are there because we all want improvement in our lives. We often think about the changes we want; the next thought is I will get around to that soon, when I have time. However, in the normal course of our lives finding the time, or the right time, never happens. That’s where New Year comes along. Not only does it feel like the right time because it feels like you get to reset the clock and start fresh with the New Year, we also have more time on hand. The two together make it prime for us to attempt change.
So New Year resolutions are really made out of a set of circumstances that come together at the same time, reflection, feeling like you get to restart the clock, and having more time. However, circumstances do not create change; your resolve to achieve has to be there. A group of people attending the same school all have the same circumstance, and yet the ones who achieve are resolved to their success.
In truth, we are not resolved to our resolutions. We are not determined in our purpose. The circumstances give us the opportunity to want, think and even start on changes we want, but as the weeks unfold our lack of resolve unwinds our momentum, we slip back into our normal patterns, and do not follow through. In simplicity, we are not committed. That is exactly what you need, true commitment to the changes you want.
With true commitment, you will stay on course and really create change. So this year take advantage of the circumstance. Instead of making New Year's resolutions make New Year Commitments. Really ask yourself what you are willing to be committed to. If you are committed you can and will create changes in your life, and then your New Year resolutions can happen. It is all about commitments.
Committed to helping you find your way to success...

Good article. I completely agree with this. So what do you recommend if I know there are things I should change but I also know I won't have enough commitment? How do I create this commitment when my desires to change are not strong enough but logically and intelligently I know I should change?
Thanks, love your program.
