Quick Fixes Are Fuel for Fat

Alisa Daglio  Body Makeover Expert

Quick weight loss "fixes" do not serve as permanent solutions. The weight may come off on a temporary basis with methods utilizing pills, fasting, or shakes, but ultimately the lost weight will return. Recently, I spoke with a woman who has tried countless quick fix weight loss solutions.  From liquid fasts, Phen- Fen, and having her jaw wired shut this woman sought out many weight loss fads and failed to keep her weight off.  She gained back the same 70 pounds every single time and is now at the end of her rope.  Last week a gentleman shared with me that over the last 20 years he had attempted hypnosis, laxatives, and liposuction to lose weight.   His 80 pounds made a consistent comeback with each new experiment. He reached the conclusion that these techniques were like "trying to place a band aid over a gunshot wound."

The worst side effect of temporary faddish solutions is that they weigh down the human spirit and make you feel as if it is practically impossible to keep the weight off. The solution to lasting weight loss involves a consistent nutritional program and proper exercise. Eating the right combinations (which are different for every individual) of nutrient dense food throughout the day is the only real way to make our bodies burn fat efficiently.  Weight loss management takes time and effort.  It requires focus and a lifelong commitment.

No one else but you can make yourself lose weight. External pressure from friends and family can often make matters worse. You must undertake exercise and diet changes to please yourself and change your life.  Some new behaviors need to be accepted into your life in order to make hard earned results last.  The following is a brief list of techniques to aid you along your journey:

Prepare food and proper portions ahead of time

Be organized and consistent

Have healthy snacks available

Set goals

Stay Accountable

Once you get to where you want to be, maintenance is the lifestyle change.  No longer will you need to be super strict and follow a hyper structured plan.  Maintaining your new body will take effort but it will be far easier then the initial weight loss process.  Remember to keep metabolism elevated by continually eating clean, quality food, keeping portion sizes small and snacking and eating meals two to three hours apart.  Exercising on a regular basis and drinking plenty of water are also key components to maintaining homeostasis and internal stability.  With these simple steps, you will find that you keep your energy levels high, and your body feeling good.  Keep an eye on the scale. Weight will fluctuate regularly due to many factors, however if you ever find your weight starting to creep back up by more than seven pounds, return to a structured eating program to get back to your goal weight.
