Stand Up for Your Job Vision
By Get A Job Expert Brenda Griffin
People, like nails, lose their usefulness when they lose direction and begin to bend.
~ Walter Savage Landor
Do you have a vision of your career path but lack support and validation from those close to you? If so, it is time for you to take a stand and stand up for your vision!
That was Greg’s dilemma. Instead of getting validation for his vision, he got all kinds of input that didn’t necessarily support his plan. In this confusion, he got off track and lost his vision. He started making plans and back up plans to accommodate all the input! No wonder he was confused. Greg was going in too many directions to achieve his career dream. In fact, he had stalled out. No wonder he was in limbo!
It was time for Greg to take a stand and stand up for his vision.
In Greg’s case, it was his parents who were weighing in on his choices. Others may have spouses, siblings or close friends that are putting in their two cents. Are you allowing others to influence your path to your dreams?
What is all comes down to is this – are you going to live in limbo trying to please others waiting for them to suddenly support you, or are you going to listen to your heart and follow the path coming from within you?
….if now is not the time to act, when will it be? ~ Hillel
When you take the time to connect with your vision, the path will get clear. What you do next is up to you! Deep down, Greg knew his path. What he needed was validation. Once he felt validated, his confidence grew and his path became clear again. To get back on track, he needed to surround himself with people who would support his journey.
Support comes in many forms. Maybe, like Greg, it would be best to seek career counseling. Or, you could join or create an on-line support group here on Tools To Life. Networking with colleagues is another option, as is reaching out to others who have made similar career decisions.
The truth is, not everyone in your life may agree with or support your vision. Do you want your dreams enough to stand up for your vision? Reach out and seek support. Push past the resistance of others and get back to your vision!
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.
~ Henry David Thoreau

For me, Seeing on paper/screen is Believing, is Motivating, is Direction, is Focus on a better path to be the Best.
Seems too simple, I guess, to write down priority lists and achievements and expect motivation but it does work...like walking farther and farther as legs become more and more fit, easy after that first couple weeks of better routines.
Adding to list "reaching to others with similar interests" is certainly a hi-lite on my list...partners are a luxury and a very powerful asset.
I have noticed that smarter people can read in a noisy room because they have this single focus capability to see/hear only what they are reading...a skill developed from a young age maybe and something I have learned with practice.
Every negative comment is a step backward whether we recognize it or not, so control your success...how many steps backward versus how many forward.
Self-validation and more will work for my new contract software business...never enough time but lists control my success.
Thanks Brenda

I have found stand up for your vision so beautiful that it is just for me, that is a great message of hope and faith it is a sense of direction a north for one to believe in one self. More power to you follow that dream, dream on and on and on, your vision will be completed dream Gods dream the one He placed inside of you.
that message is so what i am going through right now trying to find a career path to go down even though i do have some ideas of what i want to do but my partner does not always support me in the decisions that i want for my life it even gets to the point that i even tell myself that i probably would not be good at that or that i would not be very successful i know that i need to stop thinking negative and start letting the validation for myself be enough to get me jump started if people around me choose later to support me after i have started then that is fine at least they are there. and i think i know why people around me because for so long i quit alot of things in my life things that were important to me.
