Who Committed the Crime?

Three men walked in to the bank, I mean four, wait a second, it was three. One was already waiting inside. They were all dressed in black suits, no, I mean dark jeans and tee shirts. They were wearing Halloween masks, or… were they super-hero masks?  The men proceeded to rob the bank, anyway. One man stood by the door, three men made us all lay down on our bellies with our hands over our heads.  One man went behind the counter. That is five, right? It went by all very fast, I am not really sure about the rest.

I am telling you there were six men in overalls with cartoon masks, they walked in and...

The leader was a woman, she screamed the orders and the two others wearing masks of some sort went...

I think they were white guys and...

I think they were Spanish...

They were in racing uniforms...

The leader had a deep voice...

Do you know what happened? One thing for sure the bank was robbed. But, by who? Even though there were so many witnesses, can you figure out what happened?

You cannot depend on witnesses because everyone has not only a different vantage point, but also a different way of perceiving the world.  All too often, we get into our heads what other people are thinking about us.  What we don't realize is that we cannot know what other people are thinking unless we are psychic. In truth, the only thing we know is what we are thinking.

Recently when giving a lecture someone in the audience told me about his experience trying to get a job, or to be exact, his experience in not being able to get a job.  He described it as each person who interviews him has a narrow, specific view of him and that is what prevents him from getting a job.  I told him that each person, I guarantee, does not have the same view of him, that some are not even thinking about him at all.  The only person who has this consistent view is in fact him. It is he and his own views about himself that is preventing him from getting a job.

In truth, I am sorry to burst your ego bubble, most people are not thinking about you at all.  What are other people thinking about? People think about themselves.  If you want to change your experience in the world, do not concentrate on changing what other people think about you. Concentrate on changing what you think about you. 

You behavior and your experience in the world is going to be shaped by what you are thinking about. Change your thoughts and change your life.

Who committed the crime?

The crime in life is not paying attention to how you think.
