todayalone | getting there! not good but made my 30 minutes.
manderwrites - glad you're feeling better and exercising again. |
manderwrites | YUCKY Not much troopin the past couple days - I have been sick and actually have barely moved off the couch in two days.... my body was feeling so sore and achy and I thought it was because of doing my workouts and all the stuff I have been doing - but today woke up at 6 throwing up and feeling terrible. I am feeling a bit better now and am just about to walk out the door and walk to the market do a bit of shopping and back - I just entered my 60 minutes for the walking - So - See you guys later! I'm on the road.... |
eminentpenguin | Swim! Wordbird, you are so kind! Now, just imagine me in the swimming pool trying to do a flipturn, and seeing me come up sideways instead of the right way! Haha! I'll keep at it, and I'm confident that I'll do a proper flipturn soon. |
Sunrose | treadmill I am walking on my treadmill every day except Sunday and days that I mow my huge lawn. I push mow my lawn about once a week. On the day I mow It takes me about an hour of time so I feel too tired to do much else, so that replaces that days treadmill walk. Everyone keep up the good work! |
Wordbird | What a team!! Picture your heart, blood cells, immune system, skin and eyes and muscles all cheering and noticing they are starting to feel really great!
I did two hours yesterday, until well after dark, working the garden and hedges. I always come in sore, and happy.
Today is big house cleaning day. Plus 15 at the gym. *I only do 15-17 minutes aerobics at the gym and it's making such a difference. Plus 15 lift weights every 2-3 days.
GREAT to see everyone doing so well, making a comeback if you went away, doing 10 minutes if that's what you can do. Way to go Robert! Zengirl!!! JustDance you are kicking it. KANE, I can't believe you! eminent! Doll! todayalone even sick. BDA! Looks like we just congratulate everyone. Sahndra I love the bike story . And Dianne. Way Kool. Surething, Dr Debbie, sunrose, kamikia. MANU is hanging in there. Manderwrite a trooper as always. Redhmond....wow.
Next time I exercise I will imagine every one of you there in the gym or where ever with me. That's fun! We'd have a blast.

todayalone | Missing out Haven't been too well the last few days so no exercise. Hope to start again very soon. |
Sahndra_om | My bike... ...is back on the road again!!! I bought this wonderful bike and burley(trailer)over 9yrs. ago. Used to ride it everywhere. It was my main mode of transpo. I spent over $800 at the time. I just got it all fixed up at the bike shop, washed off the cobwebs and it is great to be back on the road again (accept my aching butt ). I also investigated some local salsa dancing and yoga classes I can get involved with for not much money at all! I am still in love with my body ball workout but gotta have variety ! LOVE AND LIGHT-SAHNDRA |
Wordbird | New and Better Choices That's GREAT to create a new family action you do together. There are so many benefits, PLUS exercise. Take a cart on wheels, a wagon or a backpack so the carry-back of groceries works well. Take your canvas bag if you want.
Another benefit may be you buy smaller amounts of fresh food more often. Waste less, stays fresh, better nutrition. I take bike to the store a few blocks away if I need to buy heavier things.
PLAY is great exercise. Like enjoying the rain, sometimes we forget to play.
I am noticing I am stronger, in general. Feels odd, because it 's a a change, and good. |
ZenGirl (canceled account) | In the back of your mind... Funny thing, yesterday...I was laying (on my stomach) on the bed watching TV with the kids. For whatever reason, I got into a "kid" mood and started kicking my legs back and forth...like kids do when they are bored. Before I knew it, I was doing leg lifts and scissor kicks. It was kinda funny, because everyone got into it and eventually abandonned the TV for a quick family yoga session! On top of that, since the grocery store is barely a block away, my husband and I decided to start walking to the grocery store every day. I decided to wear a pedometer today, and I'd say it's approximately 2500 steps (between the walk there, walking through the store, and back). That's not too bad just for taking care of a daily neccessity! |
DianneMead | THE BEACH WAS AWESOME TODAY Well my son has acquired a dalmation pup that isn't 2 years old yet so quite full of energy and rather undisciplined. We took him down to the beach today for a run. WE RAN. The dog sniffed everywhere and everything in site, obviously his first time on the sand. Anyway needless to say much more we were kept rather busy keeping the dog under control. All in all it was a beautiful experience and we got to forget about exercise because we were concentrating on the dog. Then after that we managed to do some gardening. Okay cheers and blesses to you all for now. Last thing I say is "I'm so glad the dog lives with my son's father." |
Wordbird | Welcoming life with open arms Isn't that something how children enjoy everything, and the moment, and don't avoid life. They stomp into puddles, play in the snow, let the rain hit their face, slide in the mud, feel wonder at an insect.
Great life lesson you bring up--another time when exercise in the rain turned out to be a good thing! |
manderwrites | only 15 well . . . i only got in 15 minutes last night . . . I meant to do more but life got in the way - a friend stopped by with bloody mary makings and we proceeded to get relatively plastered.... lol. I do have a very very very strong warning for anyone mad enough to want to try a Lifecycle challenge after (yes, i did, and no, you shouldn't) - since I had only done about 10 minutes of my workout when she arrived, after we had a number (not sure what number) of drinks I decided that I should get back on the lifecycle and fulfill my commitment - HAH! BAD CHOICE. Well I did about 7 minutes or so and just couldn't 'go' anymore. Then when my girlfriend was laughing at me I said "YOU TRY - beat 7 minutes on Level 2!" - well she got on and started (and said that the level 2 on my Lifecycle is equal to the level 5 on the lifecycle at her gym [it coulda just been the liquor]) and I kinda fell on the couch..... the I realized - pumping legs = pumping heart = rapid alcohol assimilation. Within about 4 minutes of getting off the cycle I was so drunk I though I was going to get SICK...... I called out - "HEY, stop pedalling, this is not a good idea" - about 5 minutes after that we were both pretty pitiful...... lol. The upside of this twisted experiment is that the alcohol went through pretty quick and so although we were totally out to lunch, it didn't last too long. after about 1/2 hour - I cooked us some food (it was 1:30 am and neither of us had even eaten dinner, I hadn't eaten anything but a salad in the morning - DUH) I made us some delicious fettucine with shrimp and veggies which really hit the spot. She left (she lives just down the street) and I crashed and now it is Saturday afternoon and I'm still in my jammies watching the Olympics. I will do my half hour in full today (later) and will not drink any liquor tonight.... that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! Amanda |
eminentpenguin | Rain You know, Todayalone mentioned rain in a previous post, and it reminded me of the other day when it rained where I live. I was out running when it started raining, and at first I was getting down. Then I realized how much I loved playing in the rain as a kid, and that I didn't matter if I got wet. After all, I was out enjoying myself in exercise clothes. It opened my eyes so much to how uptight I was being, and that I need to live more like I did when I was younger, with fewer worries, and a more positive outlook.
Great job on the exercise everyone, it's amazing to see how much commitment there is out there! |
Wordbird | Be a Great Parent To Yourself That's what we're talkin' about! You made a problem an opportunity, and you got in those exercise minutes.
Kool.
I got to the gym. On the way I noticed how my mind sounded like a kid who doesn't want to take a bath or go to sleep. "I'll do this other thing first, " "But I want to eat first," "It's probably too busy in there..." on and on.
I talked back to myself like a good parent does. No, I said to myself, first I need to do what's healthy and good for me. I'm going to, no argument. Then I can go have a great salad for dinner at a special restaurant. Deal? Sounded pretty good to me. Besides, I was using my "don't talk back to me" voice. Sometimes being self-loving is just like that. You parent yourself. You do the responsible and healthy thing and you don't let your "kid" run the show. Because, it's your responsibility to keep that "kid" safe and healthy. NOT exercising is like telling your inner kid, "Sure okay, you can stay up as long as you want."
Once a routine is established and the gym becomes part of my life, I won't have these inner arguments. That's the part a lot of us are working through right now...pushing past inertia, excuses, habits and resistance...finding ways to build exercise into our lives as a routine and a habit.
KEEP ON pushing back. Eventually getting that exercise won't be an effort. It will come naturally and easily because it's just what we do. In the meanwhile, like so many others have said, I thought about you and this challenge, while I worked out. |
todayalone | Being positive On Thursday it was raining and I couldn't get a park near where I had to be. Instead of ending up miserable and depressed, I felt good that I'd squeezed in another twenty minutes of exercise. |
Wordbird | Small Bits, yes yes yes. Wow! So much you are offering each other, and much to feel inspired by.
Yes, FIGHT BACK when those bad news renters inside your head start telling you this isn't working, or it IS working and you aren't worth it, and you don't need exercise--all the things that self-negating voice says. Push past! Gold stars!
Yes, all the little changes you make count. Stairs, parking farther away--you can even lift a few soup cans in the kitchen while you are standing in there. Do weight lifts with water bottles, a bag of rice, whatever is around so you get a few in. Nice and slow now--slow works your muscles better.
At the computer? Flex your thighs, rotate your ankles, stretch your toes; bend your neck gently side to side; stretch your hands regularly; remember good posture.
What is TOOLS all about? That small steps, taken regularly, bring you to your goal. Small steps matter.
Walk to the store; bike for ten minutes; weed your garden or lawn; dance while you dust!
Plus, when you are ready, get to the gym. Go swim. Play volleyball. Volunteer to help Habitat for Humanity or any other organization--choose the labor option! Do those things in fact a little before you think you are ready.
Small bits is something all of us can do while watching the Olympics. Jog in place, touch your toes, cheer by raising your arms up and down!
Be sure to stretch. Warm up. Cool down. And use your back carefully. |
ZenGirl (canceled account) | Truth... I'm going to be perfectly honest...I haven't really exercised. Like I said last time, I'm doing the little things like park at the far end of the parking lot, taking the stairs, etc. Housework, too...if you consider that I do a minimum of 4 loads of laundry per week, that's 8 trips up and down the stairs. It adds up. That's not to say that I'm not going to exercise. I intend to start, when I get out of my slump. Most of you know that I suffer from Major Depression, and I'm going through a "spell" right now. Now, the good news...somehow, I've lost my first 2 pounds! I've been dieting and taking a supplement for about a week, and I'm finally losing! I ONLY advocate diet pills as a last resort, and that's what it's been for me. I've been dieting and exercising (off and on) for a year now and never lost an ounce. I lost a pound yesterday and another today. If this continues (pound per day), I'll be down to 130 by September 1!!! As I said, I do intend to start doing actual exercise soon...at least walking or some crunches. Eventhough, I'm sort of cheating, I want to thank everyone here for the motivation to commit to weight loss. I probably wouldn't be doing anything, if it weren't for these challenges...so, again....THANK YOU! |
Kane | manderwrites That's amazing, i have to remember about this each time when i'm lazy. Thanks! |
manderwrites | Hey this challenge stuff WORKS! I came home and just didn't feel like doing any exercise - I kept telling myself, 'it's okay, you have done so much lately...'
So at about 10:15pm I logged on here and was going to remark about my choice NOT to do it -
AND THEN . . . . I thought, 'Amanda, why? Why? You haven't been drinking, you aren't that tired right now, just lazy - you are sitting and watching the Olympics - you can watch AND exercise . . .'
SO I lifted my weights and stretched a little on the ball for 5 or 6 minutes- then did about 10 minutes of yoga and then 15 minutes on the Lifecycle keeping a steady 75 to 80 RPM.
ALL THAT so that I didn't have to come on here and say "no, I didn't feel like it."
. . . AND of course because I started to think about the BIG picture of what I wanted in my life and decided that a half hour of exercise certainly was the better decision for today.
So thanks for being here All - thanks for just making me realize that it IS important to me, even if sometimes I only notice it through what I perceive as "other's eyes". |
Sahndra_om | EFT My Dad introduced it to me but I had forgotten to utilize it,thank you Dr.Debbie for reminding me of it. That is a bad habit I used to have. Not continuing something as soon as it starts to work for me. Self sabotage of sorts. |
