Hit Gym; Get Strong; Exercise; Lose Weight Phase II

Goal per member: 800 30 minutes 25 days of the month

Exercise.

We're going to form a habit of self-love and self-care by exercising at least 30 minutes a day, 25 of 30 days.

If you want to dance, run, skate, swim, pull lobster cages, deliver papers or bicycle; if you love to second-line, jump rope or horseback ride, walk the coast or climb a cliff, play volleyball or lift weights, follow a DVD at home doing tai chi or yoga or pilates, or go for a walk, any way you want to get your body moving and healthy, come on in!

Together we'll get strong, have fun and lose weight.

DianneMeadDianneMeadCATCHING UP ON FILLING IN

Hi everyone!  Finally I'm checking in to update. I thought I had to dedicate exact time to actually do regimented "exercise". So if what I have done counts then great otherwise let me know. Everything we do, when we look into it is a lesson. Lesson 1 for me, I expected too much of myself again.  Okay updating ...Monday was a fizzer and I still haven't had a chance to get on and put in goals etc they are on paper just not updated on the computer. I love being busy though and most of the time I'm running around flat chat. Tues I spent time running around finding boxes and climbing to get to them (am moving house), Wed I had two children, mine and another so out into the garden we went and work was put on hold basically for the day, Thursday I spent a few house packing up trailers and shifting boxes and furniture and today FRIDAY YAH! another another hour packing and moving things around PLUS I've had contact with a networking buddy who has Stripfitness (cool name hey?) and we've booked in a time for me to have a free session 90 mins on Monday which hopefully will be a regular thing. Not the freeby i.e. lol.... Lesson 2 or reminder is that if I put time into my diary then I make the time. So guys will endeavour to keep posting on a daily basis and even though your messages were initially bugging me THANK YOU because Lesson 3 persistence and consistency pays off and Lesson 4 Helping Others also Helps me - I'm noticing what you are up to and love sharing and encouraging and final thanks for showing me your encouragement.  Cheers for now

WordbirdWordbirdBig Friend Network

Hey, how about everyone send everyone else a Friend Request. Then we can motivate each other in messages and say hi, and build our friend list all at the same time. You can say no if you like but if yes then we build another strong network of support.

Remember to BOOST your teammates, too.

When you get a sec' (AFTER your exercise. lol).

WordbirdWordbirdComments Inspire
I'm inspired and amazed too, how creative people are and dedicated and trying their best. When I "don't feel like" exercising...which others mention so often...I come here and read the comments and get fired up. THEY didn't feel like it, they went, and they felt better. So I can too.
eminentpenguineminentpenguinWow!
It's so amazing to see all the creative ways that people find to get exercise.  Congratulations to everybody on making the commitment to get in better shape, let's keep up the good work!
todayalonetodayaloneMiserable weather
but managed a couple of quick sessions of walking between the showers - couldn't quite make the 30 minutes.
manderwritesmanderwritesAND . . . by the way . . .
When I got home I really didn't want to do it.  I mean, I had thought about dancing tonight for exercise but I got home and had a long phone call and a beer and my motivation totally lagged.....  But I had promised my brother that I would meet him online to watch the Olympics and I would be there by 8 (he is holding on for me now!) so at 7:20 I realized it was now or never so I just said "comeon, just do 5 minutes . . . see how you feel after 5 minutes....."  and I did... and by 5 minutes - I did not WANT to stop.... I was having FUN and it was kind of hard but I felt so GOOD - and you ALL should find something that feels that GOOD - exercise should be FUN!!!!!  that's all.  :)   Amanda
manderwritesmanderwritesit is GOOD

yesterday so exhausted that all i did was housework - but I DID do it all in a big chunk so that I could count it.....   I took 30 minutes although it actually took longer but somehow I just can't convince myself to count housework at the same level as exercise...  convince me!!

BUT TODAY. . . I just had such a good time....  a five pound weight in each hand . . . dancing non-stop for 15 minutes, then down on my back on the floor and dancing with legs in the air and weights in my hands!! Dripping sweat . . . I am sure I looked insane but I had SUCH a good time!!!  I am looking forward to this workout tomorrow!!!  :)

WordbirdWordbirdHouse cleaning; envision success
House cleaning related to the declutter challenge. Need also to get back to my gym routine. As you say, it's a hump to get going. Once you do it feels great. We have to focus on that good feeling...not let the inertia make the decision for us to do nothing. Envision feeling great, feeling proud of yourself, having more energy, logging in your minutes.
todayalonetodayaloneGlad I did it!
Didn't feel like walking but once I started it was fine.
DrDebbieDrDebbieDidn't want to walk...

Came home from the office...felt an energy slump...it would have been easier NOT to walk.

BUT...I kept thinking of all of your...being right by my side...cheering me on.

I walked...ran a little...walked...ran a little.

Did some EFT tapping while I walked.

So glad I did...my energy increased significantly afterwards.

YAY!

Dr. Debbie

redhmodredhmodThanks for the Nudge
Thank you all for the nudge:) So many, that I returned from work and went straight tothe gym!! Thanks!
manumanuplaying with LEGO

Well, I don't know if it counts as workout...but after a much needed trip to Ikea I played my favourite game: LEGO, but the adult-version, aka flatpack building.

I think I worked hard for more than 30 minutes, All screws went in BY HAND... my shoulders still ache! and my brain had a good workout too: those instructions can be challenging!

Keep up the good work everyone...and PLEASE send me a nudge if I forget  to log in my numbers Laughing

WordbirdWordbirdHow to Be Nice To Your Muscles (and they'll be nice to you)

Manderwrite tears down the fair! lol. You deserve a rest for sure. I wish I had half your energy.

Speaking of muscles, they need 1-2 days of rest after a hard work out. That's when they rebuild and replenish, making YOU stronger.

You can do aerobics of any kind every day. But muscle building every 2-3 days. Especially if you worked them to a "burn."

You build better, happier muscle by doing muscle work carefully. On the coming down side of a weight lift for instance, go s-l-o-w. Coming down has more resistance and builds better muscle than going up. Going slow means you have to use muscle, rather than using momentum.

Remember to warm up those muscles with about 3 minutes of jogging in place for instance, and then do a stretch cool down after you exercise. Important! We want to be not only "hot," but healthy!

manderwritesmanderwritesI'm TIRED!
Today was the "tear down" day at the fair - I spent about three hours tearing down with a lot of hauling crates and raking and packing tables and chairs and tents....  my body is actually so exhausted after the set up, five days of dancing, and tear down - with no break to recover that my muscles are shaking...  I took tomorrow off so that I can relax and clean my house which is a total disaster area at the moment (of course, because of the clean sweep challenge I know it is only topical)
WordbirdWordbirdCalorie and activity chart

Great start! Already seeing changes! That's fantastic.  Me too. What kind of exercises are ya'll doing? I like to hear about them...

lemme see winged b what happened...back to you on that. THANKS Dr Debbie for adding some Docterly notes :)

Trivia:  you burn 140 calories an hour just standing there. lol. But only 100 if you sit for an hour.  While you sleep you burn, depending on how much muscle you have and other factors, about 80 calories an hour.

Here's some other calorie burning numbers for each hour of activity:

Calories burned per hour, Activity:

180 housework

210 biking

210 walking

220 gardening

250 golfing

270 bowling

300 walking (brisk pace)

300 swimming

350 volleyball, dancing, roller skating

400 chopping wood

420 tennis

600 skiing, squash, handball

660 biking (brisk pace 13 mph)

900 running (10 mph)

So for instance if you are getting in better shape but not losing weight, you might add a higher calorie burn activity.  Just don't overdo! No injuries, no going overboard. Getting in the shape you want takes time. Count every day and each step toward your goal as a success.

Sahndra_omSahndra_omI already see changes...
I am totally loving my body ball!!! It is only a half hour, which helps me talk myself into it when I try to give myself excuses why I can skip it. Seeing my body change for the better is a great motivation. I am trying not to complain about having nothing to wear,I am shrinking!!! yeahhhh!!! I notice I can not enter my progress till late after noon so I will try to remember because I do my workout in the morning.SAHNDRA
eminentpenguineminentpenguinSweet!
Nice work, team!  Let's make this happen!
winged_bwinged_bcan't add challenge ;(
I can't seem to join this challenge, any hints? I loved the last one although I weakened near the end. However I ready to start again!
todayalonetodayaloneGym
Did not want to go but went anyway - treadmill and weights. Was horrified to find the last time I went was over a month ago.
WordbirdWordbirdGardening and hedging

I fought back the invasive vines and poison ivy. Always feels like success to open the little woods back up again, a bit. And got my work out for sure.

Hey roll around on a ball in front of the TV...that is great!! You don't have to be Rocky dancing up the stairs. Just get your body moving however you can.

If you DO feel like being Rocky, let us know cuz that would be fun.
