created by: Elayne I am am Elayne. Just new to toolstolife and the group.
Clearing the clutters is a big deal for me. Even in my computer. Even I think I cleaned my unnecessary files, I find a lot more. The problems is that, I can not put unnecessary thing in the rubbish bin. I always try to keep them as soon as I can even I konw they are useless. So my home or my computer is a mess.
How do you deal with this instinct that tell you keep all those ald clothes or broken things?
I know what you are feeling and I have certainly been there.
I kept mt things because I felt that they meant I had more or was more.
I kept the broken things that needed to go away because I felt that if I found the time and inclination to fix them that my life was on the right (or at least better) track.
Looking back, all they did was make me depressed because they were a constant reminder of my failures.
I feel so much better now looking around at my house knowing that my accomplishments lie in the fact that I made my habitat better.
Good luck angels!!!!!

I am trying very hard to turn off that "I might one day need this" switch. I think it stems back to growing up. In my case we were broke, and I have pretty much stayed that way into my adulthood.I will say that in a few ways I really have saved money fixing old stuff up, but as to what price? Well.. I seemed to have passed on my clutter to my kids. That price is very heavy.I have found a very small trick that is working (thus far. I dedicate a pre-set time limit, and truly dedicate yourself to the task at hand. If your task today is organizing, then do JUST that. If it is throwing stuff out, THEN DO IT! Try not to give yourself too big of a task, keep it simple. Do small areas at a time. See the progress you made in the task that you preformed. Then congradulate yourself on a job well done! Good luck! *hugs* Andi

I tend to do the same thing if I do not MAKE myself get up. You can do it. Set a timer. as soon as you are done with what you need to do, you get to hop back on the comp. YOU CAN DO IT! *hugs* Andi
I had the day off today and actuallly cleaned the 1/2 bathroom, mopped the kitchen and got a load of clothes in the washer.
The thing is, other than the kitchen floor and the bathrooms and laundry, there is just not time to do the rest.
I am going to try to do this tomorrow afternoon when I return from work. If I can spend just 15 minutes on the clutter in my dining room it may begin to make a dent.
Thanks again.
Make the time. You dont have to do it all in 1 day. Make a MUCH smaller goal for yourself. Such as: "Today I am going to spend 15 min organizing papers on my desk."
1) Then set a timer for 15 minutes.
2) start organizing just the papers on your desk
3) when the timer beeps, STOP.
4) Congratulate yourself for the progress you made.
At the end of this, you will see that in just 15 short minutes you accomplished something. If you don't have 15 minutes, make it 10 minutes or 5... but be true to yourself. Make sure that you are not cheating yourself. It might sound silly, but I have found that it works. *hugs*Andi
I find when things get too cluttered I start going thru them to see what I need and don't need. Cloths, I put in a bag and give to the homeless (put them in the bin). Go thru your papers and recycal Even if it is an hour a day. You will start seeing progress in no time.
Good Luck
