created by: Tymlaird Hi, I'm John, and am looking for ways to work from home. I'd thought of setting up a custom guitar shop, I have a pretty good woodworking shop, and really enjoy building and repairing guitars. But I could use some help in figuring out how to promote this, if I can legally have this sort of business in my home, and what other concerns there might be.
I had tried several MLM companies, and had no success with them. I have lots of problems selling things.
So I'm looking for something that works really well, with no cold calling and if possible minimal selling, outstanding products that are a REAL DEAL costwise, and little to no startup fees.
Aside from the woodworking capability, I also have a photographic darkroom: a fairly well sound insulated room for recording, a variety of instrument, amplfiers, Acid studio.
Since you are so knowledge in prepairing Guitar, absolute wonderful.
You should publish your expertise on the web.
On your web post a lot of high quality content about Guitar knowledge.
Write an ebook and distribute through you web presence.
This way you can create a traffic moment.
You don't have to tout your product or service, client will ask for you.
Content -> Traffic -> Presell -> money
Follow the sequence, don't put the cart in front of a horse.
Another point you need to aware is about the web presence.
I don't suggest you create a blog, blog is too amateurish.
Build a business not a blog, if you want to have business.

Hi John,
Have you ever thought about EBay trading?
These sites get heaps of traffic already, all you need to do is find things that are popular and you can produce in volume.
We have a site in our country called TradeMe and its in the Top 10 last time I had a look on alexa.
There are people who make 000's with these types of sites.
I have a reference name of an expert. Email me at aaron@aaronriddell.com if this is something you wish to investigate further.
Happy New Year
Aaron Riddell

ok I was trying to post a second comment to your original post and ended up posting a comment to my own first comment - ugh!
so I'm going to try again
I've been thinking about your post and here's of an example of how to combine internet marketing with your guitar repair biz. are there simple repairs than guitar owners could make themselves if they only knew how? write an ebook giving good baby step by baby step instructions with photos on how to do basic maintenance and simple repairs on guitars (you can use google docs and export as a pdf file) then burn the ebook to a cd and sell on ebay or wherever - make sure the ebook has info about your offline business (your blog if you have a blog or site) and then hand out the cd with the ebook as a freebie to locals at music festivals or wherever guitar owners congregate etc. your ebook will help you promote your service, create good will, and establish credibility and possibly earn a few dollars from ebay- oh before you make your ebook available be sure and have at least 1 guitar newbie actually follow your instructions to make sure no steps were left out or more info might be needed somewhere. Its easy to think other people know something when you do when they really don't.
this idea could grow - later on if you wanted to develope a mailing list you could give away the ebook in exchange for people's email addresses

Hi :-)
to get some help locally and find out what is allowed where you are as well as other need-to-know business advice in your area I suggest you get in touch with a SCORE chapter in your area (see http://www.score.org/) and/or make an appoint to consult with someone at your local small business development center http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/sbdc/index.html
As far as putting the internet to work for your business the two resources I recommend are start listening to all the internet business master podcasts (past and present) http://www.internet-based-business-mastery.com/ and also start attending Lynn Terry's free Tuesday SSWT webinars if you can http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/webinars.htm - Reading her blog http://www.clicknewz.com/ will also help if you are interested in internet marketing of any sort.
you can use the info shared on the topic of internet marketing by applying any ideas that seem good to you to your business and finding out what works and what doesn't work.
