I guess the first question one would ask themselves, why an OCD support group? Good question! First off OCD is very debilitating and for those millions of us affected by it, it is just another obstacle to getting through tools let alone an ordinary day. It can really wipe you out.
since it is classified as an "anxiety disorder" most of the treatment has been Psychological and prescribed meds and their side effects.
It's not all about rituals as it's been portrayed in books and Hollywood, there is much more to it, and some scientists now believe that it is caused by a lack of B12 leading to destruction of "Myelin Sheath that is needed to protect nerves and that reason the sufferer needs to check and recheck for instance a doorknob is that the signal is not being processed by the brain that the door is secure, due to the lack of serotonin crossing the synapse
"Since serotonin is a chemical that travels across the nerve synapse and the thicker the myelin sheathing on the nervous system, the more potential for the releasing of serotonin, it make sense to nourish the nervous system."

"The social and economic costs of OCD were estimated to be $8.4 billion in 1990." I'm sure that number has rised, since most doctors will only treat OCD with medications.
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is being used as alternative to meds to treat OCD.
Slowly this little understood condition is being treated in a more holistic manner, finding the cause, rather than trying to solve the problem by making the symptoms go away by medicating them and the sufferer without addressing the true cause!
