NON_SMOKER!! THIS CAN BE YOUR TITLE TOO!~ - added: Fri, Jul 10 11:26 PM

IT is  a fact that most people take multiple tries to quit smoking!! I used to joke around that if I could just quit quiting smoking that I may end up a  NON_SMOKER!

Everone is different, but I believe in a gameplan. Identify when you are most @ risk to smoke ALCOHOL anyone? Feeling Stressed? After Meals? As soon as you get up, when waiting?

Acknowledge that you are quiting for the benefit of you and your loved ones!

I still get angry, I did not start smoking till I was 18 YRS old+, well half-smoker @ first! I used to be known as greased lightning when it came to ashtrays, and eating from them as a toddler! All the years of watching and associating the patterns of smoking in my parents VS SMOKING IS BAD????

It takes a pretty well rounded individual to overcome this conditioning! Luckily my youngest 2 brothers don't smoke!!

So I encourage us all to claim the TITLE: NON_SMOKER!!!

Don't give up! - added: Sat, Nov 22 08:14 PM

Hi Kimberly,

I too have failed three times recently, but I have made up my mind to keep quitting until I quit.  I'm also accepting all the help I can get for the 23rd when I am attempting it again.  I have been afraid of failure too, but I am starting to psych up.  I am joining this group, I am talking with a person from a non-smoking hotline, I got gum and I am changing my behavior and changing things up.  I really want to quit and I was told to put those reasons on papers and then place them everywhere so I don't forget why I want to quit.  They also suggest healthy substitutes.

Heads Up:  There is this new drug called Chantix which people are having much success with.  It made me really depressed so I had to quit, but I know several people who have quit with this.  When I took it, not smoking was easy, but I had a bad reaction.  Maybe you wouldn't.

They say to pick a date when you won't be super stressed and when you can avoid other people who smoke for like a week or two.  They told me to avoid just trying to quit "tomorrow" and pick a date in the future.

That's all for now.  I wish you well and stay in touch because I could use all the support I can get.

Artfulsoul.

Word. Yeah I'm on day 3 of the patch with no smokies in the last 3 days. First thing in the morning and when I get to work is the worst! BUT my wife has already noticed I no longer have smoker's breath or cough, plus I can already breathe better and my sense of smell/taste has improved dramatically already. I'm in the same boat as Krickett - My mom was just last week diagnosed terminal with her lung cancer which is undoubtedly smoking related.
