Telling MY Story

Today matters.

The Principle: Every day this month you will photograph or collect a souveneir from a part of your ordinary day.  I told you that it was simple.

Tools you will need:

  1. Get a camera with enough exposures for the entire month.
  2. Get a small notebook. Something that is small enough to fit in your purse or pocket.
  3. A new pen.
  4. A sense of adventure and an open mind.
Here are some very loose guidelines.
  1. Look for opportunites to visually savor the everyday moments in your life and photograph them.
  2. Collect "tokens" of how you spent your time, such as a menu, or candy bar wrapper or gasoline receipt.
  3. Write down in your notebook/journal what you took a photo of and WHY? Did it have a particular significance? Did it make you laugh? Angry? Hungry?
  4. Do it every day.
And here is my humble opinion as to why this will be an amazing experience for everyone in the group.
Most of us tend to walk through our day in a haze, just going through the motions in a robotic zombie-like state. My thought is since we have to be in life we should BE IN LIFE. Taking note of how you spend your day will bring you into the moment.

As you think about what to document from this day, you will begin to get creative, and see your "mundane" in a whole new way.
It is my hope also that you will share with the group what you see and learn as the month progesses. And I will share with you.
So, if your job is in construction, take a picture of what you do each and every day. You will see that though it may feel as each day is "the same old thing" it is not. You will see the bridge coming together day-by-day and you were a part of that process.

If you are a stay-at-home MOM. Take a photo of what you served your kids for breakfast, what your van looked like when you dropped them off from school, what bills you paid today, etc.

I will post some ideas to the board on a regular basis to encourage you to think outside the box. I will challenge you. I will hold positive thoughts of you as we move through the month.

In February, we will put your photos and souveniers together in an album or binder for you. Again this will be a simple process. So, don't get ahead of yourself. We will get there when we get there.

Today is today. The is an old saying that says "may you live everyday of your life".

No day is ever the same.

Let's make note of that.

Hi Everyone! How are you all? I love the idea of doing a little journal of your every day, I'm going to have a go at this! I may not always have a camera with me, so I may resort to sketching some items, or collecting ephemera (sweet wrappers, bus tickets, etc). I think it's a wonderful idea. Imagin »

May - added: 2007-04-30 00:00:00

Is this group still happening? I see that the last added comment was in January. I would love to do this, and will begin with May. I am a scrapbooker and have often thought that this would be a great way to document your life for your family and friends. And even for yourself when you get older and »

I'm grateful for you Gwyn! I'm glad you came up with this idea! I have always carried my camera with me everywhere I went anyway, but your idea has given me something to think about in a new light! I'm very grateful for this project, and can't wait until we get to see the end result! I honestly don' »

Why I chose this group - added: 2006-12-14 00:00:00

In searching for a group to join I came to this conclusion. One of my biggest challenges is being overwhelmed everyday by all the things I feel I have to do. Stopping to take a moment and reflect on things - taking a picture or saving something from the moment - I think will help me get over this fe »

Hidden Challenge - added: 2006-12-04 00:00:00

The hidden challenge in this program is coming to terms with the fact that my life is something worth documenting in detail. It's a great excercise in self importance, especially for those with low self esteem like myself. Perhaps my fruit snack wrapper sitting on the coffee table is fairly indicati »
