created by: Caille Another Princess and Frog story - Written as a response on an inspirational (spiritual but not religious (the site that was the inspiration for "the Secret," the book that’s popular today)) email list to a person wanting to create someone special in her life.
By C.S. Howe, Princess, with commentary by The Royal Subconscious, 11/02/2002, but still true today, in 2008.
Hi There, *smiles*
Let me tell you a story about the creation of a wonderful relationship. As we all know, the real trick to creating anything is to feel what you want so passionately that it seems real, and then totally forget that you did. Here's the story (for those who have heard it before, my apologies):
Once upon a time, in a galaxy not too far away (ok, this one), lived a Princess trapped in an Ivory Tower (well, it was just a whole lot of ludicrous belief systems, but it may has well have been an Ivory Tower for all the good it did her). She was miserable. Our Princess had made some bad choices (meaning she knew better, but did things anyway despite feeling badly about doing them). She had a husband who was abusive to her and her toddler son, and so gets cast in the role of this fairytale's obligatory Troll. He would not work, *ever*, wallowed in self-pity all the time, and complained about *everything.* He was a total downer to be around. I am sure you have met the type.
So anyway...all our Princess yearned for was to ride off into the sunset with her Knight in Shining Armour (and such a yummy knight he would be! *drool*) and leave everything she had received by either miscreation or default (which WAS everything, mind you) behind. (Yah *right*... like that would ever happen.) So, she goes back to her mundane life and forgets about the silly fantasy.
However, the Princess had a vast online life, in which she owned an online medieval role-playing game. This served to both distract her from her misery and give her time to think (and inflate her Majesty's Royal Ego). She had many friends who worked with her on this vast project, including a Handsome Frog. This particular Frog was less than popular with the others of her Court, but was very sweet and always helpful to the Princess. He had a wonderfully objective perspective on life.
Over the five years that they worked together online, the Frog slowly became the Princess's confidant. He listened to her stories and problems, offering advice on how to make things work the way *she* wanted them to. Even though, by this point, he loved the Princess more than life itself, the Handsome Frog never, ever, let on.
He respected her views and beliefs, no matter how silly they were. The Princess believed that because she had married the Troll, she had a duty and an obligation to work at jobs that she hated, and to take care of him forever, (because he refused to and beer and big boy toys are expensive) no matter how much she wanted to leave. She had made her bed, and now had to lie in it, so to speak (always alone, of course…as she always had, but that’s for another time).
As the story goes, the Handsome Frog had become the Princess's best friend. Slowly, and *completely* unbeknownst to her (oh come *on*...how dense can a Princess be???), the Princess fell in love with the Handsome Frog. Of course, she fought it tooth and nail every step of the way once she realized that she had these feelings (enter ludicrous belief systems). She pretended she didn’t, and then was shocked when she realized she did indeed, truly, deeply, love the Handsome Frog (there was a large flash of light followed by an exclamation of profanities not suitable for a fairy tale when she realized it, but I digress). The Princess had to *do* something about her situation.
You see, the Frog lived in Oz, which is on the other side of the planet (and over the rainbow, too!) from the Princess. They pined for each other and became closer and closer, racking up hundreds of dollars in long distance phone bills. One night, the Princess and the Frog were on the phone. When suddenly, the Troll abusing the little Prince *yet again* could be clearly heard through the walls. The Princess ran out of her room and put herself between the Evil Troll and her son. She copped a blow from a thick leather belt meant for the Prince and then the Troll, frightened of what the Princess would do to him (she must have been shooting fire out her eyes or something...I do not know) performed a quick and total about face! The Handsome Frog nearly came through the phone to save his Princess and her little Prince. He said, "I am coming. I will get a ticket somehow." And he did.
A couple of weeks later, a VERY nervous Princess was waiting at the International terminal of Vancouver Airport. She was so scared that she couldn't move. She was shaking like a leaf, and *really* regretting the two four-shot vanilla lattes she had downed that morning. The flight was announced to have arrived, and the Princess hid behind a pole in the terminal, waiting to see if her Handsome, and very Brave, Frog had indeed flown halfway across the planet to save her. About 20 minutes later the passengers started coming through the gate. He had flown through Tokyo, so she knew to look for the 6-foot-tall Australian amongst the Japanese businessmen.
Then, she spotted him. She could not breathe and her heart stopped beating. The Princess was *petrified*! She had one of those "OH MY GODS THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING" moments as reality came crashing down. The Frog saw his Princess and beamed...he opened his arms and beckoned her to him. The Princess found that she could actually move again, and fell straight into his waiting embrace. As she snuggled into his arms, she realized she was finally safe. Then, he kissed her...*REALLY* kissed her (he did…her friend took a photo of it and everything). It was one of those classic fairy-tale smooches...right there in the airport, in front of EVERYBODY! Then *Poof*...the Handsome Frog turned into her Knight in Shining Armour right before her very eyes!
They were a match made in heaven. They knew that they were meant to be together, as each had found their soulmate, and they married (once she had divorced the Troll, of course). They were the best of friends, the most incredible lovers together (they made me leave…but the walls…they are thin!), and adored, trusted and loved each other completely. The little Prince immediately took to the Knight as his father (...and oddly enough, looked exactly like a small version of him). They were inseparable. (weird, huh?!) They worked through her issues, vibrated the Troll out of their lives (he decided he did not want any responsibility, signed off on the Little Prince and left the state for destination unknown), and then something terrible happened.
Some Very Bad People threw commercial airlines full of innocent people into various government buildings and the Princess and the Knight lost a good friend that day. The Knight felt he needed to keep his Princess and his little Prince safe, and that he needed the comfort of home. They would return to Oz until the Knight felt better and then they would decide whether to live there once the Princess could see his homeland, return home and get her belongings if she wanted to return.
Two weeks later, our Princess, her Knight in Shining Armour, and the little Prince boarded the big white horse with the red kangaroo on its tail and rode off into the sunset (literally…I watched it from the airplane window!) to Oz. The Knight decided they would stay in Oz the second his feet hit the tarmac and he breathed in the much-cleaner-then-Los Angeles air. Of course, the Princess, being inherently attached to what was HERS, was devastated. It took time for her to get over losing everything she had owned and the places and people that she had loved, but time does heal all wounds, and being so completely unconditionally loved helped a LOT.
As soon as she had gotten over the proverbial "it" (and took a big cup, pulled her head out, etc., etc., etc.), and realized that she had RECEIVED her wish...that this was her *deliberate* creation, our Heroine made friends and found a family here who loved her very much and she made Oz her home. The Princess, her Knight in Shining Armor and the little Prince are currently living out the happily ever after bit. The years go by, and they just keep getting closer and falling deeper in love. (Is this great or what????)
(This is the place to put The END, but...it's not, so I won't!)
In Light, Love, and Laughter,
Caille
