Your project with cloth sounds like fun. I wish I were still in art school / college as I was so much more motivated during those years. Grades kept me on my toes. I was on the Dean's List throughout. Now my flat moods strip all excitement and energy away from all of that. So I am so very happy to hear you are excited about school.

school for me wouldn't be fun without good friends.. If I'm not having fun, I wouldn't be that motivated. . All the pressure and stress from school work wears me down, I actually found tools to life because I was really losing motivation at school. I think I've only been twice listed in the dean's list. once in freshmen year and d other junior year. I used youtube because I was finding answers to "how to survive college" hahaha. And coach steel had a video there. That led me here.
I was thinking about you and wondering what you did with the cloth. Was it batik? That's what made me think of you. a pretty piece of fabric. (hug) Keep goin' Maybelle!
we used a cotton fabric. we silkscreen our design to the cloth. that was the professor's instructions. hehe. it was a lot of hardwork. some part of it, we handpainted because we were running out of time haha. we made it on time for submission. :) i don't have the photos of our project with me now. maybe ill show you wen i get copies. my classmate has it. We'r on our semester break now. finally a good rest. hehe.
It was purple and had colorful little figures holding hands. She wore it as a acarf. It was beautiful, and fun, and it made me think of you. I can't wait to see your fabric design.

That is a project. I'm going to (re)take a class to audit in the Spring quarter just to paint with a class and for the critique at Grove City College. I'm looking forward to it. I loved art school. I could only work in the middle of the night, though, but I still loved it. I had my two youngest at the time. I still like working in the middle of the night even now.
Acrylic can be a pain. I would love to work in oils again. Time's a comin!
Barb (Upsydaisie)
Grove City College is a Christian school and probably one of the if not the most conservative schools in the U.S.
Oils can be contrary, but I love the scent of the turp and varnish. Acrylics are o.k., but not as flexible as oils. I love watercolors, although I am still learning how to use them. I like their brightness and effect with light.
Where are you going to school?
that's funny, turpentine sometimes make me dizzy. haha. in wat ways are acrylics not as flexible as oil? I go to University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. It's a Catholic university. But I'm not Catholic, I'm a Christian. I knew Christ through a gospel center where my friend invited me to join fellowships. And today I'm one of the officers of the college fellowship group, we brainstorm for topics in the fellowships to come. :P So sad I can't make it to fellowship tomorrow because I have a commitment outside. We will be having a group meeting for a group project at school. We are printing our design on 4 yards of cloth then use that cloth to make a dress, a pouch and a bandana. It's a requirement for textile design class. So much to do in schooool... :D
Wow that's nice. Sometimes I also find it good to work at night, because it is more quiet and there's less distractions.
I'm exploring the different media in painting. I tried oil, then acrylic. I find it hard with watercolor haha. I don't know how to use it.huhu.
My problem with oil is that my professor commented that my work looked dirty. He said maybe my brush was not cleaned well. I don't really know why the painting appears dirty. haha. Oil takes long to dry up, our professor advices us not to use turpentine in the painting. I don't know why..
I also used oil pastels. dries fast haha!
School sure gives lots of pressures and we have a lot to do. But I am happy to say I was able to grab the guitar even just for 30 minutes yesterday and played a song :D I have to finish a painting later at night, I am painting a panda in acrylic on a 2 ft by 3ft canvas. HAHA.
Finfing time to play the guitar 30 minutes is great considering how busy you are!![]()
This thread is so on the wrong page. AAAAAGH!
I hope you foind my last entry after your October 1st post.

Allthough my background is in art, and yours is in music, the need for motivation is similar. I can't have a painting unless I try. You can't play a song unless you learn the chords.

There are so many moving pieces of music. Maybe if you singled out one that means alot to you and try to work out the chords, it will come to you faster.
For instance, Pachabel in D was a piece we played at out wedding, but also as I was birthing my daughter. Since it means a great deal to me, if I were to ever learn to play piano, I would probably tackle it. I like "Water Music" by Hayden, a few others. You can always find time to listen (while you are painting?) while working or what not. Just find one that grows on you. I listen to a classical station in Boston online. I googled it.
I used to work in advertising. It's a fast-paced field. I'm glad you wrote. Keep in touch, o.k. Maybe you can critique my work.
: )

Me too... I listen to several stations online and a football game on Saturday nights from my alma mater, Liberty University. I don't go too much for the rocky stuff, but definitely contemporary Christian.
I'm into Contemporary Christian songs hehe :P
Thank you for your reply. :) I'm also a fine arts student major in advertising. I'm in my senior year and we have a class about composition in painting. I'm really enjoying the class and yes it's true I can't know what I can do or paint unless I try. I originally wanted to take up major in painting but my mom dissapproved because she thinks that a painter's life is a struggle. Money would not be easy. I don't really have a strong background on music, it's a hobby. :D I just find it very fulfilling and relaxing when I am able to play a song. I just can't find more time to give to it and I forget the chords. I just find it hard memorizing the chord sequences haha. Maybe I need more inspiration? HAHA :D
