Fall Container Flower - added: 2007-09-24 00:00:00

I have just a wee bit of fall left where I can fill the empty outside container (part shade) with ...something. Ideas? I love everything. The soil will be good, I can water it easily, but it gets partial sun. The regular petunias, begonia, creeping jenny and marigolds have done all right there. »

Where did all the weeds come from? - added: 2007-05-23 00:00:00

I say my grateful list every morning and every night but I have never included weeds, but I am just adding them to the list of things I am grateful for. Why? Weeds get me down on my hands »

BUTTERFLIES and insects - added: 2007-05-08 00:00:00

I went to the local Butterfly House today. They have sub-tropic plants and hundreds of butterflies fluttering around. I didn't know they only live two weeks? They had books about bugs. What's So Good About Bugs? and an incredible book of close up special photography...BUZZ...something. Had a repleni »

Speaking of hard SOIL - added: 2007-05-06 00:00:00

For hard and clay soil: You can add some Gypsum to clay soil to loosen it up, don't walk or step in the soil, and toss in some compost next fall...tea bags, coffee grounds, shredded leaves, fresh cut grass, banana peels. Mix, cut up big chunks, and bury them in a channel you dig into your area. I di »

Strawberry Help - added: 2007-04-20 00:00:00

Well, my strawberries are still alive despite my month long battle with pneumonia! Anyone have an idea how to get them to grow bigger (the plants)? Only one of them has a few blossoms on it and the rest of the plants are really tiny. My soil is really clay like and it has been rainy and cool here. T »

Many years we have FROST as late as a month from now. So...cool weather, early spring, or summer flowers?" The store must be thinking the »

MULCH sources. Avoid the bagged kind - added: 2007-03-12 00:00:00

I just read an article about Mulch. Most of us are using it with good effect. Now to find out the large companies and garden stores who sell us our bagged mulch have run out of sources so they are cutting good trees to chip for mulch. The article suggested finding our own sources so we use materials »

My Garden - added: 2007-03-05 00:00:00

I have a mixed border garden, with a fish pond which I built myself and a arbour which I built myself. I am proud of them because I am not a handman type. The back yard is basically all bed and paths, I need to some more in the front, but my pride and joy each year is my patio garden, where I surrou »
