Since you mentioned Bill Murray, another one of his movies is "What About Bob?" The movie makes fun of psychiatry and starts out with "Bob" saying affirmations to himself out loud as he walks down the street to see his new psychiatrist. (Sound familiar?) In order to get rid of Bob, the psychiatrist tells Bob to read his book and take small steps to overcome his phobias. Bob, of course, literally takes small steps, but in the end, the small successes, along with support from the doc's family, add up to help Bob become more self-confident and happier. Thought you might find it an interesting parallel to Tools.
