"Now for something completely different!"

What a laugh!  Last evening I was given an opportunity to play beach volleyball.  My friend coaches a coed community league team and was short of players.  Yes, he asked me.  It took great effort to box up the thousands of self doubts that initially bombarded me but I did and actually thought, "What the heck, why not me?"

So I sucked back my self doubt and performance anxiety and showed up on the court without having touched a volleyball for over 20 years.  Okay, I realized I needed to by open to guidance and not expect myself to be fantastic...heck, I just hoped not to have a ball smash in my face.  Well, surprisingly I had a blast!  Man, it felt great to be challenged physically and mentally and, yes, socially in a situation so completely new to me.  Also, it was an amazing stress releaser.  Okay, my serve needs heavy duty work but I was able to keep many volleys going and scored some points.  It was a laugh and I've been asked to join the team and I eagerly said, "I'd love to!"...even after actually being hit in the face with the ball.
