Grrrrrr! Or not.

Well, my most frustrating obstacle right now is finding another job.  I should point out that I know the difference between a 'job', a 'career', and what I want to do with my life.  To go into that now would make this an inordinately long blog, and I just want to leave a snipet before I doze off.

I'm kinda disappointed with my current job, because while it is a non profit, they seem to be increasingly all about the revenue.  It's a great position, but I don't have benefits at all, and I have to pay my taxes out of pocket, which I don't really like.  I didn't read all the fine print.  My bad.

In my defense, I wasn't told I would be a 'subcontractor' which means that even though I work full time, I am not eligible for any benefits.

What's somewhat distressing is that I can't seem to find a suitable position to step into until I can get my feet under me for my personal business endeavor.  But I'm not going to let it discourage me any longer.  I've paid the majority of my tax bill this year, so that can be done.  I've come to the realization that the less I work the less I make, hence the less I owe, so I'm gonna try to get in some no pay vacation time.  I owe that much to myself.

Tomorrow's another day, and I'm ready.

LET'S MAKE IT GRRRRRRRRREAT!

Oh, I'm sorry about your job situation.  You could just continue for the hunt whilst you're still there.  And if you found a better one (considering the financial and well-being issues), then by all means go, girl. Althought there could be drawbacks - like setting in and getting settled, peer groups, and other little inconveniences as you start.  But, of course, you'll be sitted in peacefully in the long run.  Well, if there's no better job available yet, you could patiently wait until the right one comes.  Let's put it this way.  Maybe staying put in that present job will give you an advantage or better opportunity (in some angles).  I'd suggest that you try very hard to hone yourself much better than how you're doing it now.  Better-smelling experience.  And that would, perhaps, be your passport to a much more lucrative job.  Whichever way, good luck on that.

Welcome to TOOLS.  Glad you found your way here.  A great program, indeed.  Wholesome and awesome.  Plus, we've got a lovely community.  Very supportive, warm and caring.  The whole package should help you in your future endeavour.  Stick with the daily exercise and that should open up all the doors for what you've been aiming for.

Enjoy your journey.  Don't forget the daily morning rituals:  Clap, splash, brush, smile (you've got a lovely one!).  Have a GREAT  day, Autumn Lucy!  (I thought so ... you could have been my younger sibling ... in the other life.  Oh, you are the one "in the skies with diamonds" (Beatles) while I'm the one "in the land called Hanna Lee" (P&P+M).

Cheers from the other one,

"Contractor" not a contractor?

Some companies use "sub-contractors" just to avoid paying you your rightful benefits. If you go to the same place, at the same desk, and do the same job every day, then you are an employee. It's illegal to call a person who does an employees job, a sub-contractor.

They are being fined for that all over the country, when they get caught. It's been a trick they have used for over ten years now.

Also! If you are indeed a sub-contractor, (which means they contract some work out to you which you do at home or on your own time or hours), you should be getting a much BETTER salary than the employees. Why? Because they get benefits, which are super valuable. The company does not pay you benefits, so they save tons of money, but that means you bear the burden of your own medical, retirement, vacation, sick time, and many other things. Therefore, contractors get higher salaries.

Right about now I'm suspecting you don't get benefits, you don't get employee status AND you don't get decent pay. So yes...dump them, when you safely can. They are taking advantage of you. Unless you absolutely LOVE the work and find it incredibly rewarding to go give your time, energy, talent and dedication for near-nothing (which is possible), don't accept this kind of deal.  They should be ashamed of themselves, I think, but no doubt call it being "business wise."

It's a rough economy right now so stay with any income, until you find something else promising, and don't start a war with this company over it...just quietly make your plans to go elsewhere and make a better living and future.

Read the Tuesday Weekly Inspiration also, which comes in your email if you click on Notifications in your personal profile. It's by the TOOLS Get a Job Expert.  Coming soon is a program about getting a job, by her. !!

Thanks!

Thanks Wordbird and Autum Mist!

I kinda had the feeling that this company is growing more 'business geared', but I guess I thought I could ride it out.  This seems to be a permanent change happening, and I don't really feel good about it.  It's not my place to say anything, so when the timings right, the good lady will take her leave.  I might even pass the job over to a neighbor of mine if she hasn't already gotten a position.

Thing is, the company was founded by a man for whom I have a tremendous amount of respect for.  I guess it's my own selfish agitation at having his vision eschewed that put me in this rut.  But, on the flip side, fair is fair.  They could at the very least offer me paid sick, cause I rarely am.
