A Challenge

As a woman who grew up in a period when women went to college to find a husband, I am amazed at the number of women who still cannot think of themselves as anything but someone's wife or girlfriend.  And, distressingly, so many of them only find happiness through the man in their lives.

Hey, girls, this is the year a woman is running for - and just might be elected President.  It's time for us to recognize our own value.  Having said that, it's also time for us to recognize a real man as one who shares his life with us, and treats us with the respect and love we deserve.

So, here's the challenge.  Post a story about the man in your life - and something he did that made you know he was the man for you.

I'll start, but I warn you it's a hard one to top.

My husband and I were going through a very rocky patch, to the point I was actually considering divorce.  I had also just started a high stress, demanding job and was really trying to prove myself.  One of my responsibilities was to collect payments, and make the bank deposits.  I had worked really hard to collect a back debt, and was extremely proud to have the $10,000 cashier's check in my hands --- except that I couldn't find the check.  About the time I was stressed to my limit, George showed up to drive me home.  My mood was reflected in my treatment of him - not something I am proud of.  Nevertheless, he joined in the search.  I was about to give up in tears when I turned around just in time to see him climb into the dumpster outside the building.  Amazed that he would do something like that for me, I was even more astonished when he came back with the check in his hand.  When I asked him why, he said, "because it was important to you."

We've had our ups and downs since then, but every time I remember that day I know he's the only man I'll ever be with.
