Day 3.5 - Perspective

Ok, this blog was inspired by a rough phone call I got this morning. Normally I write these blogs solely for my own benefit, but this one isn't only for me. I'm not sure you will even read this, but you know who you are.

The more I do tools, the more I feel I am learning about myself. And in turn, the more I understand about others. Following the tools day about problems as opportunities, I began to think about just how powerful perspective can be.

On one hand, taking a positive perspective on otherwise overwhelming situations has all ready made me feel more confident, and has allowed me to examine things and events from different viewpoints. This has helped me feel immensely better about myself, while allowing me the opportunity to try to understand the position of others. These past couple days (and even this morning) a few events took place that normally would utterly 'derail' me. However, by taking the time and effort to examine these events from multiple viewpoints and taking different angles into consideration, while not always an emotionally easy thing to do, I have gained a greater understanding of the events and what happened, and for lack of a better phrase this has allowed me to be 'at peace' with these events. Now that doesn't mean ignoring things, rather it means acknowledging things for what they really are whether or not it huts, and accepting this reality. This has allowed me to approach these situations with understanding instead of animosity, and in turn I have learned and grown because of it.

On the other hand I see many people around me who don't find opportunities, or even consider perspectives outside their own. How do you talk to someone like this? Challenge their ideas or share your own? I mean, everyone has a different perspective and unique viewpoint on something, so how can you even effectively communicate with someone who refuses to consider anyones perspective but their own?

Other People's Views & Perspectives

Hi Cas, Well Done for progressing through TOOLS and seeing life through new perspectives!  As for how to deal with others unwilling to see life through any perspective other than their own, that can be difficult.  Sometimes they will be dead set against your views, even before they've heard them.  Some people are pigheaded and unwilling to change at this point in their lives.  You can share your viewpoint, but I wouldn't directly challenge theirs, you could end up with a full blown argument, leaving you feeling bad.  Sometimes you have to bite your tongue, and accept that you cannot control other people's behaviour, however much you want to.  They have to want to change, it's the only way they will.

Share some of your views and see if they're interested, if so, maybe point them towards TOOLS, otherwise enjoy your life and don't dwell too much on the negativity around you.  That is just what I would try to do.  Hope it helps!
