This weekend I admitted a 58 yr old man with metastatic gallbladder cancer. He came to my hospice on Friday evening from the hospital.
His wife, children, twin brother, sisters-in-laws and many other family members followed the ambo and on Friday he was quiet but I knew he was listening to everything.
When he was in the bed all comfy, I told the family, "he can hear us so let's not talk around him" and he yelled out, "that's right".
His family said this was the first time he had spoken for three days. I explained that he might not have felt comfortable talking with the doctors because he has a path to follow now.
We kept him comfy and respected his dignity.
Tonight the angels advocated for him to do what he wanted. He wanted to pass on and let his family be together in their homes instead of in the hospice. At 7:30 pm he did just that.
I felt such love from his family. They said, "he has now beaten the cancer". This was a man who was suppose to die in sept, 2006.
He wanted to give his daughter away at her wedding in 2007 and he did. He looked great in the pictures. His wife and family cried and I cried with him.
It is so beautiful to see love in action. Also, to see the human go on spiritually is amazing. I had a great weekend. I am so thankful for such tremendously powerful experiences.
Namaste,
Cathie

Hi Cathie
Thank you very much for posting this extremely moving message.
I lost my father recently after he had suffered from Alzhiemers for a couple of years.
After he past on the family was very quiet and I think relieved that his suffering was over.
I always think of my father as my hero because he worked more than one job to support our family. At his funeral I stood up in the chapel and asked people to put their hands up if they knew my father at some point during his life. They looked a little unsure but they put them up anyway. Then I said put them up if you liked and respected my father and everyone put up their hands. Then I drove the Priest insane by asking everyone to give the man in the box a round of applause for everything he had done for my family.
He left one hell of a shadow to get out from under but he also gave me the desire to succeed. PS, sorry for going on. Ian.
