Why so sluggish?

Two days ago I had the big job interview I mentioned in my earlier blog.  Yesterday I nursed a celebration hang-over and last night I stayed well away from any form of alcohol. Today I woke up after a deep and satisfying night of sleep expecting to be full of energy to fulfill my realistic to-do list.  Instead, however, I have struggled all day just to keep my eyes open.

Two cups of coffee (which I was also going to stop drinking as of today) didn't do the trick.  I got some consulting work done but then felt like lead as I sunk into the sofa and pretty much gave up on the rest of my to-do list.

I said no to meeting friends at the pub tonight (so that will make two nights in a row that I've not indulged in alcohol) - so that's a good thing. Perhaps my habit of drinking almost every night with friends has resulted in major sleep deprivation (I read somewhere along the way that alcohol prevents one from achieving a necessary level of sleep).  Maybe that's why I'm so tired today?   I'll keep at the NO ALCOHOL deal and see if my sluggishness lightens up.  Unfortunately, I allowed my tireness to prevent me from exercising today, which only added to my sluggishness. Anyone else ever experience extreme lethargy following a decrease in alcohol consumption? Hope you are all having a great day,DH

sleepiness

A hangover can make me sleep all day, given the chance. Don't worry, you'll be back to normal soon. Smile

Vitamins

Just wondering if you are taking any vitamin supplements? It's possible your body is deficient in one or more or the nutrients it needs and the alcohol has the effect of amplifying that.

I'm certainly not a doctor, but my own experiences have made me a firm believer in a good vitamin regime.

An additional suggestion

I'm sure you will feel better tomorrow, but something you said in the blog made me realize that you go to the pub to make contact with the outside world. It is where you meet your friends.

You need to find additional ways to have fun WITH PEOPLE. You probably did a lot of socializing at your last job, so when you lost it you also lost a bunch of friends. I understand that because I've experienced it too.

I would also suggest that you only make one change at a time. You haven't gotten to the point in Tools where you are taught to make tiny changes consistently to get big results. So yes, give up alcohol now, but wait to give up coffee too until your body has gotten used to the idea of the first change.

And try to figure out why you were going out to drink every night, if that is what you were doing. And try to find a way to get the other things you were getting at the pub some other way.

I hear you I hear you

right with you

I am right with you.  I am used to going out every night and it is a social thing, but at some point it became about the alcohol.  I dont know how to disassotiate myself from the booze without alienating myself from my friends if at all possible. keep in touch and let me know how it goes.
