I'm a church musician who truly loves her work and ministry. I've been married since Dec. 2006 to a great man who helped me be who I really am. I'm mom to 4 grown girls who I love spending time with. In my free time I spin, knit, watch old movies, enjoy spending time with my friends.

Hi folks.

I am 49 and am losing weight and strengthening my body.  For the first time ever I have taken up the practice of yoga but I'm having some trouble because of my size.

Have any of you 1.  done yoga when you have been over weight and out of shape? and 2.  are there ways to continue the practice by modifiying it so that I can stay on my knees?

This has become an important part of my day and am hoping there is some help for me.

Thanks

says: Hi. I just bought a Yoga + Joyful Living magazine. To inspire myself to try it. I meditated and did Tai Chi many years ago--both were fabulous for my health and life. Yoga I keep hearing though how good it is for you in so many ways. I have heard advertisements for CD's and tapes especially with titles like "Yoga for the Rest of Us" (those with injuries, less flexible, weight issues, or elderly..the rest of us! lol) and I've seen Yoga classes where you do everything from a chair. So easy going starter Yoga is out there. Try a search maybe Beginner's Yoga or Baby Boomer Yoga...I've seen real-time classes too at the YMCA etc. for beginners, elderly, etc. I hope you find one near you, or a tape or CD. Everyone who bends like a pretzel started out as a person who fell over or lost their balance or had health or coordination issues. So don't think Yoga is only for the super flexible.
