all questions»

I would really appreciate some help in wording an affirmation for myself that will help me stop overparenting my only child. I am a single parent of a 15 year old boy . I can't stand the thought of any unhappiness in his life, and when I think he is experiencing some, I want to fix it and also find it affecting my mood, as if I were directly experincing the upset myself. I know this is not good parenting, I know it's not good for me either. I need to retrain my brain but I am having some difficulty with wording.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

El

says: Hi El, If you look for an article in the New Yorker called The Child Trap, you will read aninteresting essay on todays child rearing practices and the consequences. The essay references many books and studies on the subject. One term the essay sues is Man-Boy. It speaks to the young men in the universities and workplaces that are unable to cope with dissapointment. It really resonated due to the struggles my oldest child (22) has and what I have oberved in the work place. I have developed the tern Over-Engineering when referencing child rearing and it hits home with a lot of parents.
