While I was in Val David, I met a very nice couple, Celine, and Remi, who run a business called FouDeVous, which means Crazy For You. WHat they do is recycle old clothes and make hand bags, caps, riings, and all varities of garmsnts fro mthings that others would throw away. I gave then a copy of the Nectar of Instruction, explaining how the photo of the lake Sri Radha Kund is the most sacred place on the planet. SHe was very pleased to recieve it, and told me to come back the next day as she had some pasta for me.
The next day she gave me a box full of high quality Italian Risotto rice and pasta which should keep me going for a good month. I cooked some rice and beans for them with waterress and carrots and they seemed to enjoy it.
You meet the nicest people on the road while traveling.
I felt I was stagnating in Val David, so even though I had a ton of organizing to do of my things in the old garage that my Freind Jimmy allows me to store things in, I decided I needed to leave the mountains and go south where I could start to raise some funds, so I headed to Oka, home of the Cisterne monks.
I am presently camping in Oka, a small town on Lake Deux Montagnes north east of Montreal.
Yesterday I met a fellow named Victor at the Kanatasake Native Reserve, and he had remembered me from a year back as the Krishna guy that was living in his van. I offered him two books, one called Sri Isopanisad that was written 5000 yrs ago, and the Sri Upadesamrta by Srila RUpa Goswami, also known as the Nectar of Instruction. Victor sahred with me how superficial people had become, and how stressed out everybody was. He told me he encourages his sons to think twice about the consequences to their actions, which I related to the law of karma. He gave a generous doantion for the books, and I gave hiom my email in case he would like to have further discussion. THat was the highlight of my day.
Living in a regular sized Dodge Caravan has its challenges, as well as its rewards. THis is not an advertisement for Dodge Caravans, as I would probably rather be in a V W Westfalia, but they are out of my price range.
I took some of yesterday and today off to do some serious organizing. I put books with books, cooking tools with their 'department' supplements and natural medicines in their own place, excess dry goods like rice and pasta on top in the 'bubble'.
Now I know where pretty much everything is, so I feel much better living in their. Almost ready to do a laundry but Ill fill up the bag first. Sometimes I can just do a t shirt in the lake while bathing. I met a young lady yesterday who wants to be an herbalistin the Mowhawk tradtiion, specifically the sacred herbs such as sage, sweet grass and cedar. I will show her one of my wonderful herb books, The Way Of Herbs, by Dr Michael Tierra. She told me she had so many herb books, that she had to stop buying them as she loves them so much, and I have several myself that are all in storage now until , by Gods grace, and perserverance, I can save up to buy a cabin to house them in, and maybe even start to identify those herbs with those books, and help to heal people with them !
While doing my prayers and meditation on the Hare Krishna mantra this morning, in the forest, a grey bird with a hooked beak, I dont know if it was a hawk , falcon, or osprey was crying very loudly. I couldnt call it chirping. I heard it a few times as I roamed arround in there. ALl of a sudden, it swooped down on me without me seeing in it and BANG !, it smased me on the head with its claws and disappeared. I ran out of there quickly pulling the hood over my head, feeling my head for blood.
I got back to the van and used arnica cream for the bruise, and turmeric and tea tree oil to prevent agaisnt infiection. It was probably a mother bird protecting her babies, even though she must have been 30 feet up in those pines.
It reminded me of my ex who was so 'protective' and possesive of our little son, that she wouldnt even let me take him to the Botanical Gardnes that we lived across the street from alone, or even go aroudn the block with a baby carriage, or even cahnge his diaper !?! I got pretty discouraged from being able to act as a normal father. It just goes to show that this controlling tendency is there in the animal kingdom as well. Eating sleeping mating and defending.
I was also thinking that the bird was very territorial, but actually nothing belongs to anybody, but to the Supreme Propreitor, whether you call Him Jehovah, Allah, Krishna etc...
Let us endeavour to rise above the animal propensities, and exhibit our divinity

There is a tranquil space...
