Germaine's Fitness Journal Day 5

8/6/2010 5:42 AM

Day 5 - I woke up feeling a little tired and a little blue today. I guess I can understand the feeling tired but not sure about the blue part. Perhaps it’s just hormonal. Perhaps I’m a little sad that school is starting next week for the kids. Who knows? I noticed that when I had cut sugar out of my eating plan, my stomach isn’t nearly as big and bloated. Just about everything has its own form of sugar. That’s natural. I’m talking about excess sugar. That reminds me of when I was a kid. My cousin, Dante (his name is Wise now), used to eat cereal and when he had eaten the cereal he’d have sugar standing just a little above the milk. Aagh! That used to tick me off so much! It literally made me sick. I liked sugar, too but dazam! That was waaaay too much sugar. He was so much fun though. What I’ve done is switched to raw, organic sugar and I would only eat about a teaspoon of it in green tea or I’d just use a little honey. Still, sugar is sugar and like salt, it should be used in moderation. At least that’s how I see it. We all know what happens to me when I eat salt. I swell up. I was thinking about switching to sea salt but that is pricey and it doesn’t have iodine in it. At least I don’t think so.

On to the training part. Today is protein day meaning it’s strength training day. I’ve just been touching upon what day it was but haven’t given a full account of what body part I worked on. I would normally state which part but I’ll state the exercise itself to give you an idea. Let’s see…. I did dumbbell squats, leg raises, stiff legged dead-lifts (my fave), one legged calf raises, push ups, one armed dumbbell row (I used the weight stack on this one), butterfly presses (another fave of mine), lateral raises, dumbbell curls (I tried the preacher curl with the weight stack but just switched to a dumbbells), and last but not least, overhead dumbbell triceps extensions. Now each of these has like 15 reps and either 2 or 3 sets with a minimum of a few seconds between exercises. I had said that I drank Click yesterday but what is that you may ask? It’s a protein supplement with espresso added to it. So I get my protein and coffee in at the same time. It really gives me a lift and it has a fair amount of vitamins and minerals. I also take Opti-Women multi-vitamin in the morning and at night. I add creatine to my protein drink, too. That helps to build lean muscle mass. Lean muscle burns fat so you’ll want to build that up in your body. I stay away from testosterone because well, it’s testosterone and that’s not for me. I shy away from it because it just seems so male to me. That’s my personal intake for my own body. I certainly do not knock any fitness pro that takes it. I have enough of it already he he. It’s egg white omelet for me today. Yeah, I know it sounds boring but I could scramble it. I like to keep it simple and I love omelets. It can be fattening if you make it. For me, I use egg whites, nonstick cooking spray, and plenty of veggies. I also like to use my omelet pan as I don’t have to use fat in it and my omelets don’t stick. I like jalapeno peppers in mine. It’s hot but good. I drink my skim milk with that as it helps take the burn away. Anyhoo, I’m certainly hoping that this blah blue mood passes today. I don’t like feeling like that especially after I’ve spent my time with God thanking Him for giving me this gift of today. Stay tuned for Day 6.
