First day on the job

It's been years and years since I was the new girl on the block.  I am really tired tonight.  So much anticipation, so many nerves... I spent an hour going through Tools, praying, meditating to prepare myself.  Was still nervous.

I got through it. I feel swamped with work already, but I got my desk organized, learned all my office mate's names, and wrote my To Do list for tomorrow.  I can do this.  I can walk through the fear.  I can do the work. I will do the work and I will do it with confidence, ease and aplomb.

I sent out my first card, finally, this a.m.  I wrote a note to my mother to thank her for preparing me for today.  She was my model of creativity, leadership, intellectual curiosity and rigor, cultural awareness and political activism.  And she was amazingly supportive, generous and loving throughout my family and my health crises.  She was so brave throughout it all.  At first I didn't want to share my troubles with her, because I thought I'd have to support her emotionally when I had no reserves.  But I was wrong. She really came through for me like at no other time in my life.  It was so healing. I never can thank her enough.  I always find Mothers Day a kind of pressured day, and never seem able to write from my heart for the day.  This felt so much more sincere and real, to send her a love note out of the blue.  I just know she will be so happy to get it.

I have loads to do before I get to sleep, so signing off now.  I haven't had time to get to respond to other blogs these past few days and may need a little time to habituate to my new schedule before I can do so again, if I can do so again.  I certainly will try.

Best to all my new Tools Friends,

Kayla
