Hang Gliding

Everything is shifting.  I so am open to change.  When I told three separate friends last week that I felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff and I was terrified - about the possibility of not having a job or necessary income - all three said that perhaps it was time to fly.  When the first one said it, I thought, "What New Age b.s." When the second person said it, I thought, "That's funny, that's what person number one said."  When the third person said it, I figured it wasn't a coincidence.

In the following three days, I received four callbacks for interviews and heard that a fifth person will be calling me.  I am no longer living in fear.  I am optimistic about my future.

Today, I remembered a dream I'd forgotten.

When I was younger I often thought about how much I would love to go hang gliding.  Well, now that I have faced down a life-threatening illness and survived, I am so ready to soar.  I just looked hang gliding up on the internet.  It would cost me under $200.00.  I love the idea of facing my fears in this literal way.  I am thrilled by the idea of running off a cliff and flying.  It would be such an act of faith.  I can already feel the wind in my hair and imagine the bird's eye view.

Years ago a friend of mine said that my husband and I got together because I was like a kite and he needed to hold the string, so I wouldn't fly off into the cosmos.

Well, over the years, I came back to earth with such force, due to economic setbacks and illness, that I rooted myself deeply in the business of being responsible, taking care of everyone, taking on the weight of the world.  Because I have a strong back, I managed pretty darn well.  So well, I forgot how to get off the ground.  I became fearful, clinging to a sure thing.  I forgot the thrill of adventure and held on tight to the known.

It's high time to soar.  And I think it's time I write my list of everything I want to do before I die.  Today, the things that occur to me are:

Go hang gliding

Travel to Ecuador, New Zealand, Israel, China, Bangladesh, India, Turkey, Greece and Italy

Drive across the United States, and back

Learn basic conversational phrases in Chinese, Arabic, Bangla and Hindi

Dance in Guinea, Africa
