You Are Allowed To Erase!

Hi!  My name is Marilyn.  My current art teacher is fond of saying this.  "Whoever told you that you couldn't erase?"

We started out drawing simple lines.  (Upside down I might add.)  The purpose being to get us to look at the lines as they really appear, not as we "think" they look like.  Then we moved on to shapes and then to shading.  As more and more of the picture took shape, we found out that some parts needed adjusting.  This was too long.  That was too short.  This space needed to be wider etc.

It occured to me that our lives are like that.  As we fill out the forms of them, we see where parts need to be tweaked.  Maybe we didn't see the way the relationships were going to work until we worked them for awhile.  Maybe the job didn't turn out the way we expected.  Maybe it was okay when we started but we are finding out it is not okay now.  It is NEVER TOO LATE to erase and draw again.

And that is what I am about now.  Taking a good look at the way my life REALLY IS right now, not some illusion of WHAT I THINK IT IS and deciding if I want to continue living it the same way as I have been.  TOOLS has been a big part of this process and I am grateful to all the TOOLS staff for all the hard work they put into this program and to all of the Inspirers along the way.

May you have the courage to erase and REDRAW your life also as you work with this program.

Happy Journeys!  Thanks for stopping by!

My Personal Assessment is not public.

I joined TOOLS because:
I wanted to get past all the excuses I make up for not living life to the full. I have been settling for mediocre and security rather than going for the gusto.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
I am writing. I am sharing insights that I have learned, neat things that I have found that are funny. I'm not sure yet what all I would be writing. I am just in the beginning stages of considering this.
My favorite wild animal is:
I don't know if this is considered "wild" but I love sea turtles.
Why (describe as much as possible):
I guess because they seem like they have an ancient sort of wisdom. They live a long time and that means they have adapted and have the characteristic of steadiness and perserverance that counterbalances my tendency to be excitable and to change my mind all the time.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
A sheep with a black face.
Why:
They look so amusing. They have this kind of innocence and yet they have this mischievious side to them like they can butt into you when you least expect them to.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
Pasta with chicken and all kinds of stir fried vegetables done to just the right tenderness. Portabella mushrooms, lots of garlic, broccoli, zuchinni, tomatoes, and onions. A sensational salad with mixed greens and a light house dressing. Fresh baked whole wheat bread with garlic oil drizzled on top. A small glass of light wine and spumoni for dessert. With my lemon water of course.
Why:
Because I love pasta and fresh vegetables. We have two large gardens and grow our own vegetables. I am a carb lover. I have a fast metabolism and carbs work well for me. I do better with smaller, lighter meals more often during the day than with heavy, large meals. I like to be satisfied but not bogged down.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
Oprah Winfrey, Marci Shimhoff, Joe Vitale, Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra.
Why:
They are all writers who have "been around the Block" so to speak. They are all passionate about their lives and their writing and share that passion with the whole world. I find it fascinating that writers take the time to channel their creativity into a form that we all can enjoy.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
Utah, Sedona, Arizona, Australia, the Bahamas, Alaska, the Northern part of Canada
My perfect slice of pizza is:
Loaded with black olives, pepperoni, sausage, sweet peppers, mushrooms, bacon, ham, onions, garlic, zuchinni, tomatoes and cheese on whole wheat deep dish crust.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 A gin
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
 Chi tea
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
A log home in the woods, seeing my children doing what they love in their lives, and writing a book that actually gets published.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
One of my jazz, one of my David Arkenstone ones and one of my Yanni ones.
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
To talk with my neighbors and encourage them in some way or another and to share something from our gardens.
A sunset I remember:
Being in Rochester, N.Y. with my daughter who lives there and looking at the sunset over the lake.
