On:Losing weight

Hey All, I thought I'd post a note on the difficult subject, for those of us,who are struggling with our weight issues. Coach Steele has said some interesting things over the last few days. He said that if we really wanted to lose weight we would,if we wanted it bad enough. Then he spoke about taking responsibility for our actions and behaviour. basically he is saying its down to us. The thing about it is that he is telling the truth, its not down to factors outside of ourselves but that its within our control. I dont know if this is good or bad!! Its good to know that WE can change but hard also as its down to us and after all we are only accountable to ourselves. Its us that puts off exercising until tomorrow (which never comes!!) and its us that puts that chocky bar in our mouths. So knowing we can change our own lives is empowering but also a little daunting. He also turned a much believed idea around that the RESULT is to lose weight but the GOALS are to eat less calories and to exercise-this breaks it down a bit and tells us we have to acieve certain goals first so as to get to that end result which in this case is to lose weight. This is one goal and result I wish to receive from doing Tools. Peace n joy everyone, Caroline (Mumski)

Oh wow......

You are so right.....and I was just thinking of having a little weight watcher dessert but after reading your blog, I guess I'm not going to after all!  Geeeeez, I really hate taking responsibility for that, you know!!!

Our choices.......that is so right on!!!  By putting off making those choices, we think we're doing okay because we WILL do it, just tomorrow or the day after.  But once again, you're right, tomorrow or that other day just never seem to ARRIVE.....Frown

Time to take responsibility for choices TODAY.......here we go!!!

Hugs!

You CAN DO IT, Caroline!

The hardest step is the first step; getting out there & doing it.  It's easy to make excuses & put things off until tomorrow.  I spent most of my life so far pushing it to tomorrow.  For the past three months I've made it to the gym 3x a week and have also exercised at home.  I'm not having huge amounts of weight loss, but I feel much better, and actually have anxiety if I think I am not going to be able to make it to the gym.  I can tell you; this wasn't the norm for me until I started doing TOOLS consistently and realizing that I make the changes I want in my life.  It's exciting to see you starting day 1.  You will not believe the potential you have inside yourself to make huge changes in your life.  Good luck, you will see lots of success!

You deserve a star You deserve a star

Here is what has helped me.

I tried a bunch of diets.  Believe me, a bunch.  The biggest problem I had with sticking with any of them is that they eliminated some sort of food or another, and well, I love good food.

I came across one guy that taught me something very simple, and the best thing is, IT WORKS and you can eat WHAT you want, just not pig out.

Doing this alone, with little extracurricular exercise outside of some walking here and there, I have lost 19 pounds so far.

It's not fast weight loss, but it's GOOD weight loss.  You have to keep in mind, it didn't get on there overnight, it's not coming off overnight, so rejoice in a pound off here and there and keep going.  They add up.

So here it is.  Simple formula.  Take your current weight, multiple that times 10.  That will give you a good estimate of how many calories you need per day to maintain your current weight.  You eat more calories per day than that, you gain weight, you eat less you loose weight.  Throw in some exercise it will happen faster, but it DOES WORK!  Don't forget to adjust this number as you lose weight, because your calorie needs will go down as the pounds come off.

Now, eat what you want, but try to make wiser choices. Just little ones.  For instance, I still have a hamburger, but now I choose mustard over mayo, and skip the fries.  I also order them with extra veggies. When in doubt, veggies are always a good choice.

Eat smaller meals, but more frequently, rather than do like I did and pig out in one meal.  Eat something when you first wake up to get your metabolism kicked in, and then every 4 hours.  Less food but more frequently is the key to getting control of appetite.

Water. Get yourself one of those filter pitchers and keep some with you as much as possible.  It's cheaper than bottles in the long run for when your at home.  Best investment I ever made.

Try and ditch the sodas.   The average person drinks 30% of their daily calories.

Count your calories.  All day.  Every day.

You will be shocked how many you actually take in when you start keeping accurate track.

Finally, motivation.  This was something extreme I did and it was a real eye opener.  However much overweight you are, go to a super walmart or similar place, pick up and carry as many 20 pound sacks of dog food that equals what you are overweight.  For me it was FOUR!  Tried to carry them across the store, needless to say I didn't make it.

That sounds silly, but it REALLY gives you a perspective on how much extra stress you put on your body every day with the extra weight, and I promise it WILL give you motivation when you think about it.

Anyway, some tips that are working for me, and I am not having to starve myself or give up foods I really like.  I hope they help you as much as they have me.  Sorry it was so long, I got excited telling you about it.
