High Cal eating ... sighs

K this is really starting to be a treand, not being able to eat high enough calorie wise ... I can get 1200 easly, harder to hit 1600 and next to impossible to hit 2,000 or higher as I need to be hitting with the amout of cals I burn a week (which is upwards of 10,000 cals).

I'm always hungry now, and feel like I'm always eating, yet for all i'm eating, I'm bearly able to make it over 1600 in a day, yet I need upwards of 2110 min for the cals I burn each day (average 2,000 cals a day burned).

The dietitions, are not help what so ever as they all say that it doesn't matter if I'm burning upwardes of 10,000 cals, 1200 is more then enough to keep my body running right ... which is so WRONG in my books, burning more then you take in and then some is setting the body up for stalling in weight loss and possibly gaining fat because its conserving everything it gets to keep going!

Sighs dietiion are nuts, I've gone to so many who have given me that line that I'm fed up with them. big time.

Oh well such is life

Calories

Hi Nyxks~*

I can hear the frustration in your message. May I ask what kind of eating/food plan that you are on? Mind you, I am NOT an expert, by any means, but I have alot of experience in dieting!

I also meet with a dietitian regularly. She has instructed me not to eat LESS than 1,200 cal.

You are burning alot of calories, girl! Good job on your commitment to exercising/strength building!

I pay more attention to WHAT I am eating, and less to the number of CALORIES. This is my own analogy...If I were a car, the kind of fuel that my owner gives me is important. You want a fuel that is easy to utilize (digest), without additives (or preservatives), has the right octane (to give energy for my bodily functions), and lasts until the next fill-up (like the complex carbs that take longer to digest).

So your best source of energy would be complex carbs. They will keep you satisfied, as will raw nuts & seeds, high fiber, colorful fruits & veggies, and good sources of fat (olive oil, natural nut butters, canola oil). How do you keep track your food? SparkPeople has a great planning/tracking system, and it is another outstanding FREE (e-diet) site. It breaks everything down for you so you know how many calories, grams, and even vitamins. When I started tracking my food, I was surprised that I wasn't eating near as many calories as I should. When you see it in black & white, you are able to play with it a little, and make adjustments. Send me a message if you want to talk...or not!

Take care,

Sandy

waves at fellow SPer

Hi Sandy,

I do not count the calories till the end of the day or the following day ... I just eat as I will for the most part, and then learn what it is i'm at or not at as the case usually is.

I tried counting everything at every time it was eaten and lets say did no better that way save frustrate myself at how little I was able to get in.

I have a fair number of food allergies and sensitivities, which means there are a number of foods to which I can only have limited amounts of if at all. I'm sensitive towards over 50 different veggies and just over 40 fruits, I can't eat processed or chemically treated red meat, can't eat fish, though I can eat sea food in small potions. I  can't eat nuts for the most part, nor soy (which is in about 90% of the foods out there).

I'm a member of SP (username is NyxWolfwalker) have been for over a year now, and its been of no help what so ever. Joined only because I was tired of tracking my foods and workouts on my own spreadsheets and it offered those two in a conveniant form. SP will not let you put in more then 9,999 cals burned a week, my 10,000+ a week is higher then it will allow me to enter (which is nutters).

I eat upwards of 10 to 15 servings of veggies a day (over half of it of the frozen sort because of finaces), lots of chicken (since its the only animal sourse I really can eat without trouble) and potato and rice ... i don't eat much pasta because most pastas contain soy flower to which I am allergic towards, and makiny my own pasta though possible isn't in my limited budget (150.00 to feed three adults a month).

Nyx

Oh my!

Now I recognize your username! Are you on the Diab. message board at SP? I know I've seen your user several different places. Anyway...you have a problem, there, with all of your allergies. Like, what CAN you have? Are you still losing good?

For starters, I think I'd find a new dietitian. I think that dietitians in general, can be mighty stubborn! You need somebody to work with you and find a plan that will meet all of your nutritional needs, keep you satisfied, and help you lose weight. Some calorie-dense foods would be good. I wish that I could help you, but, like I said before, I'm not an expert. Good luck with your eating plan. Don't stop until you find a plan that "fits" you!

Good health,

Sandy

out of options in that area

I can't see any more dietitions, as I have seen the max that are covered at this point in time. I have to wait 10 years or lose 50 pounds with ever comes first before I can again see a dietition who is covered under my provaces health care or under my own insurance for that matter.

When it comes to weight loss, at the moment I'm at a little stand still, but thats not uncommon since I average 2 pounds a month loss .. as in will wake up one morning and the scales have dropped a pound and will stay there for antoher several weeks where i'll see a .5 drop for the rest of the month then when i hit it again to see well the rest has fallen off so to speak.

Inches are similor, save in my thys and arms which have grown in size of late, so a putting on muscle instead of the weight showing as coming off.

Yes I am on a couple of the Diabetic boards on SP, as to what can I eat? Chicken, chicken and more chicken, rice, potato, corn, hummus, certified 100% organic produce such as strawberries, blackberries, pinapple, lettuce, asperagus, and few others.

I have to watch what greens I eat, since even broccolii in high enough dosages can cause rashes all over my body (more then two cups ina day actually), as can even spinage (this varies depending on if its been treated or not).

When it comes to a dietition, i'm out of options. I am taking the nutrishionest up at the GYM I am a member of, but even he doesn't have much in the way of options for me. Since all the statndard foods he recomendd to help with weight loss or build muscle are out of the question with me in 90% of the case. Since they use a high volume of soy products to help build muscles or products which contain soy or nuts.

If it wasn't for the diabetes I'd not have to much a problem with some things ... such as medications cutting into my budget for buying foods (my insurance no longer covers 90% of my medications nor the lancets or test strips i use, all of it now comes out of poket, and not even the governemnt will render assistance since I own my own business .. i'd have to declar i can't work give up my business and go on government assistance if I wanted the gov to help me, and gov assiants bearly covers enough to live [500 a month to pay rent, utilities, and food] and i live in a city where a room to flop can cost upwards of 400+ a month and the chances of getting raped increase the closer to social housing you get .. and i've already been raped twice in my life, i'll never put myself in that deal again if i can well help it .. so its not even an option i'd even think about.)
