I am here today to befriend a particularly spat on and abused group of people. I realize my opinion will not be popular and I dont anticipate a movement afoot to work for their equal rights.
But I think that gapers deserve a little less anger and rath and a bit more love and support.
Gapers? You know. Gapers. As in "gapers delays" == Those people -- let;s face it -- the majority of us who slow down to view the scene of an accident.
I think this much maligned group tends to get painted with an equally dark brush -- deserved by only a few.
Some gapers, I admit, slow down to watch the freak show unfold and happily go about their day, chuckling to themselves at the pain and suffering of others. These people deserve the rage the anti-gapers spew like venom upon them.
But the vast majority of gapers really just have a natural human to human concern for someone who may be suffering. The slowing down is a process where they click through ways that they may be able to help. If all they can do is pray, or send energy or just get out of people's way, so be it.
Think about it. A fellow traveler suffering with injuried auto or broken leg, while the gapers themselves suffer - a fight with the wife or the boss..a gaper is merely making that connection, perhaps even wiser for it. How important is a fight with da missus over widgets when your road mate is needing hospitalization?
Sure, they slow the traffic down, but isn't it good -- nay essential -- to have a reminder about the fragility of objects, bones, even lives, so that you develop an even greater gratitude for what you have?
The next time gapers delays slow you down don;t curse these concerned citizens that slow you down for your pointless meeting. Bless the gapers for their profound insight. Wouldn;t it be worse if everyone sped past and no one cared?
Embrace a gaper today.
Better yet awaken and nurture your own inner gaper.
