Applied for a job...sort of

So, I sent in a cover letter and resume for a job.  Well...sort of.  I had heard a week or so ago -- while in the throes of a painful project that the office manager of a doctor's office was leaving.  While I didn't have frequent dealings with her, I liked her and wished her well.

I didn't occur to me until yesterday to apply for her job.  I knew that they had started the interview process, but figured I could still at least express my interest.  Many of the docs I would be working for I see all the time and while they don't really send birthday cards on my kids' birthdays or anything we are work friends..or at least not antagonist at work (which is doctor for "close friends").  While I didn't necessarily think it would be a slam dunk, I thought I could do the job pretty well -- even though I may need SOME training.

So I spent too much time this AM while at work (yeah yeah, questionable morals...get off my back) polishing up the resume and cover letter -- only to get an e-mail from the main hiring person saying that an offer had been extended and accepted.

So...the fat lady has sung.

But...what the hell.  I sent it anyway.  Weirder things have happened and who knows, right?

My wife has this great story.  She was in high school and tried out for the drum major position.  She didn't get it.  Her dad saw how depressed she was and offered to introduce her to a friend who taught theatre.  She met him and decided to take his class.  Between the meeting and the first class -- he retired.  So now she had a complete stranger teaching this class.  She felt defeated.  But the teacher went on to be a major mentor - very nearly a second father and started a career tragectory that probably never would have happened if she had become a drum major.

I'm hoping that this is my drum major story.  If it is, I'll have it tattoed on myself.

Way to go!!!

It is true, strange things often happen.  I was looking for a job several years ago, got a call from a place I never applied to.  How they got my resume Ill never know.  In time, I received an offer, it was a great job, one of my best!!!

I hope it works out!

Awesome!!

You never know if you dont try!!  Good job!

WTH - Nothing to Lose

BTW -- that story is going to take a lot of ink.  Cost you a fortune in money and skin space, but it will be a great read.  :)
