Days of Heaven

Time has certainly flown and it's great to be back since posting last February. I pop in anonymously from time to time to see how everybody is and it's wonderful to see some familiar faces still there - and even more heartening to see how Tools is flourishing with so many new members. That&#»

Last Saturday Melbourne experienced its worst disaster.

Temperatures reached 46.4C (124 degrees) with a ferocious wind straight from the desert. It felt like being in a fan oven, and needless to say the vegetation from recent hot temperatures was tinder dry. Fierce firestorms ensued resulting in well over 120 deaths so far with more expected over th»

Summer's arrived.

After a temperate summer so far I'm in a bit of a mad rush to complete everything this morning as the afternoon temps are expected to reach 37C (106), with 39C tomorrow. We have had over 44C but that usually happens later in the month.  Melbourne has a dry heat fortunately (as opposed »

Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch..

Back into work now after spending some time over the festive period in Tasmania. Wonderful place, very similar to the South Island of New Zealand in appearance. The many highlights included: Seeing Tasmanian Devils. Strangely cute, they're roughly the size of a Staffordshire terrier wi»

Tying loose ends...

The pre-xmas silly season has indeed arrived in Melbourne. I'm in the process of finishing work projects before Deso and I head off in a few days to Tasmania for a couple of weeks of R+R. Can't wait. It's been a hectic time of late so a rest is in order to restore equilibrium. »

Attended a wonderful movie screening last night.

Deso runs a local Men's Group, one of many throughout Australia. They are a haven where men are able to express and understand themselves without pressure or judgement from others, and due to the support mechanisms remarkable transformations have taken place. Now a movie on the subject has »

The Camberwell Chainsaw Massacre (almost)..

Spent the weekend reconnecting with the garden, trimming some of the next door neighbour's tree as one of ours wasn't receiving enough light. Had a chainsaw at the ready but the thing wouldn't start, which was a bit of a blessing - I didn't fancy climbing a wobbly ladder as more limb»

"Pitches are bitches..."

...is a well known advertising phrase. Spent all day yesterday till 2:30 this morning in front of an agency's computer working on a pitch for a food product. Not an uncommon occurrence in this line of work. In the end the work looked good and the guys are off to present while I'm winding dow»

Back from Sydney

What a beautiful city Sydney is. Being our first holiday there we made the most of it. Stayed in Wooloomooloo, which is about 20 mins walk from everywhere. Within the 5 days we were there the weather varied from subtropical to sub-Antarctic, so we experienced the full spectrum of what Sydney had to »

The spinning plate syndrome..

A furiously busy day today, having to complete a huge number of tasks before flying out tomorrow morning. One thing I noticed was my reaction to one project where I know I didn't do my absolute best due to time constraints. I know because I'm designing improvements in my head after the event»
