I Hate Being Sick!

I don't know what kind of bug I picked up, but it is sapping my energy like you wouldn't believe.  After just an hour or two standing and doing work at the bench resulted in me feeling light-headed.

I didn't have a fever the last time I checked (yesterday morning), but maybe I'd better doublecheck at this point.

And the absolute WORST thing is that I don't think I can run, or at least follow my training plan.  I was supposed to do a 4 mile tempo run yesterday with a mile to warm up and a mile to cool down, but a tempo run is an extended run at faster than my intended race pace.  Tempo runs are exhausting!  Think that's a good idea with the shape I'm in?  (I don't, either.)

So I thought maybe I'd just do an easy 6 miles to keep the conditioning up, but, again, I'm thinking that's not such a good idea.  The runner's rule of thumb with illness is that if it's above the neck (headcold, etc.) you're good, but if you're running a fever, have achy joints/muscles, or anything like that (i.e. below the neck), you have to take a pass.  Although this is all above the neck, the light-headed part concerns me.

Okay, so no tempo run for Wednesday... I was supposed to take Thursday and Friday off, then an easy, slow 7 miles on Saturday before kicking back into another full week.

I just don't see how I can manage to keep my training schedule, and that sucks!!  Being sick sucks!

The positive side-- I guess I'll be taking a rest (whether I want to or not).

TAKE IT EASY ....

I'm not much of a medication person but is very much on my naturopathic supplements.  Of course, there are times when the body have to give way to simple colds and/or fever.  I find a good concoction to combat such.  Hot tea, honey and lemon.  Mix them and drink while hot (not piping hot, but not lukewarm either).  My observation is that when taken hot, the pores open up, then the nasty virus (or whatever is annoying the system), goes out through sweat.  You'll feel good after.  Change from your soaking clothes into a fresh get-up.  Oh.... you'll feel really great, and better.

It might not be a bad idea to minimize your physical activities while you are very sick.

Good luck on all.  Be well and stay well.

Have a great day, RickD!

Cheers,
