Friends,
I just finished a short ab workout. It was on an old VHS tape. There are five daily workouts on it. In between each workout is some weird guy (that probably was famous in the 80's in the fitness field) coming on and giving you motivation to continue onto the next day.
I usually don't pay attention to him, but this time I left the tape running. He congratulated the audience for completing a good workout, then said, "Remember, consistency is the key to great results."
In the car yesterday, I was listening to TC Cummings (the master life coach for the Jim Rohn organization). He said that to achieve anything worthwhile, you HAVE to do it consistently, no matter what happens in your life. If you REALLY want what you say you want, you will have it no matter what, simply because you will make it part of your daily schedule.
He talked about the 30/60/90 rule, which I utilize in my life (only I didn't know there was a name for it). It goes like this. If there is something in your life that you REALLY want, you take action towards it EVERY DAY without fail for either 30, 60 or 90 uninterrupted minutes.
I use that in my studies (and have ever since 2001). I think it was Zig Ziglar who first said it (and I heard Tony Robbins say it somewhere in Personal Power II) that if you want to become one of the top in your field, all you have to do is make it a study for an hour every day. If you do that, you will be the top in your field very quickly (If I remember correctly, the top 5%). I study for 60 minutes every weekday. I usually don't have a block of 60 minutes free, but I keep track with a stopwatch (silly, I know, but it gets the job done). There was a point in time where I had to do everything related to my field very consciously (I had to think about it). Now, most of it comes easily to me and almost "naturally". But, what's behind that is over a thousand hours of study and tens of thousands of hours of hands-on experience...doing what I am most passionate about.
Anyway, slightly off track...I think we get caught up in the idea that if we are living our dreams that our life has to be exciting 24/7. It isn't all the time. Consistency actually "looks" boring day in and day out. But, it achieves greatness.
What is something you've been putting off in your life? What is something you've been slacking on that you know you need to take action on? Write that thing down right now with a date for completion. Make a massive action plan to achieve it. Take steps right now to schedule it in your upcoming week. Remember, the next week will come and go, regardless of whether you take action to the thing that you desire. Don't let seven days go by without you knowing that you accomplished steps towards your goal.
Keep rockin'.
