I went to the gym last night as usual. I felt great after I left.
During the second class, one of the participants on the other side of the room was loudly complaining. I wasn't paying too much attention for a while until the instructor started interacting with her. I got the impression that the lady hadn't come in about six weeks (by her own admission and decision). The instructor started talking about consistency and persistence...determination. I wanted to go kiss her (the instructor, I mean).
Whatever is happening in your life...whatever obstacles you're up against; whatever challenges you're facing, I want you to remember something.
Everything is temporary, including pain (physical, emotional or mental). Time heals that beautifully, if you want it to be healed.
The harder you push, the more results you will get. Notice I didn't say better. If you work harder (and by proxy, quicker), you will get quicker results. The beauty of that is, if you get quicker results, you can re-evaluate more quickly than you otherwise could have, thus changing your life more quickly.
Whatever challenge you're facing, if it seems overwhelming, try the next few steps...
Take out a piece of paper.
Write down the challenge.
Write down all of the steps needed to overcome the challenge. If you don't know what the steps are to overcome it, write down what you have to do in order to find out how to overcome it. If you still don't know what to do, find someone who has gone through a similar challenge (there will be someone in this world, no matter what it is you're going through...you can trust that you're not alone in this). Call them or write to them. Contact them as quickly as possible. Most people in this world want to feel like someone else cares about their opinion. You contacting that person asking for their help and opinion will be great for them.
After you've written down all of these steps, take out another piece of paper and write down why you're doing it for yourself. What are you going to gain from it?
Now, write down all the pain you'll get from not taking action and completing this challenge. Use the rocking chair approach. Go out twenty years and find out how it will affect you if you don't do it.
I want you to remember something. If you do the same things and think the same thoughts, your life will not change; guaranteed.
If you want your life to be different, change your actions and thoughts. That part is easy to do. It's the follow-through that we stupid humans always have trouble with.
Remember, whatever you focus on consistently is what you're going to get. What are you focusing on today? What kind of questions are you asking yourself? Are you trying to live on purpose? Are you living consciously?
I challenge you to "get back in the game" as it were. Start right now. Don't wait until tonight or tomorrow or Monday. Do it now.
Keep Rockin'!
Adam
