I was very excited when I saw the suggestion to not watch any TV for the first hour of the day (in the Train the Brain section today).
If it were up to me, I would get rid of all TV's in my house. It does me and my family no good at all.
When I was a young boy, the TV was on ALL the time. I got so conditioned to watch it that when I became an adult, if I walked into a room with a TV that was on, I just zoned out and started watching it, regardless of what was on.
There was a point in my life when I went into the military that I lived without a TV for over two years. I didn't miss it at all. In terms of self-development, those two years were some of the best ever in my life...and one of the reasons was I didn't have the distraction of the TV to take me away from focusing on my goals and improving myself.
If you find yourself watching TV and not focusing on your goals and your life, shake yourself out. Turn the TV off or go into the other room. Pick up a book.
I started keeping a time log a while back...to identify opportunities during the day that I had for more time.
If you do this for one day, it will amaze you at the end of the day how much time you spend doing trivial things, including watching TV. Give yourself the pain of realizing you're doing something long-term that has zero value to your life...simply distraction. Now, give yourself the pleasure of realizing if you turned the TV off now (or otherwise got away from it), you can begin to start to do the things you've always wanted to do, for which previously you had "no time".
Keep rockin'.
