Dressing my Character

I went shopping today. I didn't do my usual shopping - at Walmart for bargens, buying clothes that will do. I shopped for my Character.  I went to different, higher quality stores. I spent atleast double the $$$ for each item I bought, compared to what I would have spent in the past. I picked clothes I thought would look good on ME, not clothes I liked the look of on the rack. I tried each one on, and bought the ones I looked amazing in.  To top it off I bought a pair of in style high heel boots for over $100 (to me shoes are only worth $10-$30) so it was a big leap. So I treated myself the way I deserved to be treated and bought them. BUT - I can wear them with everything (and I will) they are comfortable and well made, and they change my Character from cute Tomboy in workboots to stylish Chick in heels! For that transformation alone they are worth every penny. It's not about how I look when other people look at me, in the outfits I purchased,  it's how I feel when I dress in Character!

You go, Girl!

Dear Smiley

I think you have made a huge step forward in doing this! ( And I am not referring to your new high heels)

Shopping for myself and getting dressed every day  is a very conflicted business for me. As I suspect it is for many women.

It is a time when all our negative tapes reinforcing our shortcomings as we percieve them come flooding into our brain: too old, too fat, too dull, ridiculous!

And then there's the value we set ( or not ) on ourselves: far too expensive actually means I am not worth it!

I am a great one for deferring gratification: I will buy myself some nice things when .......................

I am sure you know that one too.

Like you, I wear clothes that "will do". I went to an end of year get-together at my yoga school yesterday. I changed into clean clothes but nothing special. I was astonished when I saw the other yoga "girls" as I am used to seeing them with no make-up in their work-out clothes.

Almost every one was making the statement: This is a christmas party and I feel good about me! Young or old, fat or thin, they looked fabulous.

So between them and you, I am going to take a new look at my wardrobe. They things that have been given right of tenure only  because they are still wearable will have to go.

I am going to start looking as good as I am beginning to feel!

Thank you for making me think about it.

And I 'm sure you look amazing in those new shoes .........................  Wink

Regards

Minerva

Absolutely! Go Go GO

Smiley -

Hang on to the the feeling of treating yourself well!  Yes you do deserve it.  I live in Syracuse too and we have plenty of great places to get great fashions at great prices......

I too am conflicted in the closet at times...for me these days it is comfort first, fashion second because I want to be able to function - but I also want to look great....so I put a lot into getting both accomplished.....In my industry it is easy to become what I call a frump...I work in industry doing environmental work - it is a dirty environment and I do lots of walking so shoes are important....and yes - I shell out the bucks for high quality shoes......and also shop at DSW for bargains on name brands....basement of Carosel Center if you haven't already been there.

I do have lovely clothes and jewelry that I have to remind myself to wear just for me.....I get ribbed because I wear lots of leather and suede jackets......I like how I feel so I go for it.......I don't splurge everyday, but I do pay attention to sales, etc.

My favorite thing to do for me is get my hair done - second of course to shoe shopping! For some reason that just seems like a treat!  I hope you continue to shop for yourself in a way that makes you feel like you did today.  Good for you!
