Making Phone Calls

I have convinced myself, for as long as I can remember, that calling people on the phone is a form of BOTHERING them, interupting what they were doing, interfering in their life. I HATE HATE HATE calling people on the phone. I think it's because most phone calls I get I feel are an interuption of my life, persons asking me to do things I don't wish to do, to better their life, an imposition (a favor) even listening to them is an imposition, getting up to answer the phone is a hassell (jumping over numerous dogs in the way). Some calls (sales calls) get me so FURIOUS that they effect my behavior for days - that someone would interupt my privacy and what I was doing to listen to their sales speach. (Don't get me started on ones who come to the door - tresspass on my property) Needless to say I basically stopped answering my phone to stay in a good mood and avoid being asked to do favors I did not want to go out of my way to do.

My hesantancy to make phone calls and bother the person on the other end effects my daily routine as I don't want to make phone calls for any reason including to order supplies at work, return calls to clients, make doctor appointments, call personal friends - I hardley ever even call my boyfriend ............ even rarer to call my parents ......... I obcess over the NEED to make a call for hours or days and usually avoid it untill absolutely necessary, sometimes all together.

Well, this week I put the phone calls on my to do list and I can't believe how many of them got done and how easy it was!!!! No ifs ands or buts, just do it, it's on the list!!! It was almost too simple  :o)

says: I have a problem making calls too for the very same reasons.  Thanks for post, it gives me a lot to think about.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in my line of reasoning. But the things you can get accomplished and get off your mind if you make the call and move on is amazing. I'm returning things that didn't work or didn't fit, getting service for things that have broken, and best of all made hotel reservations to get away for a weekend!! I'm so proud of myself Smile

says: And me to the list who feel the same way, I like your thoughts. And have to consider acting to change that now. Don't I?

Thanks

Mike

says: Proud of you too

says: I have the same problem. I never call my family, except for my mother.
