I caught on to the message in the Day 1 literature - about using positive and present tense statements. This affirmation technique is certainly not wholly new to me - it's just something I've totally forgotten TO DO while I've recently taken on more responsibility at the University and generally as my studies become more challenging. (Insert 'challenging' to replace 'difficult').
I noticed that the Day 2 reading has a large-lettered 'affirmation' type statement at the close. This, I IGNORED today ...... because I noticed that it IS NOT A PRESENT TENSE AFFIRMATION......it's a future "I WILL" statement and I don't 'wanna have none-a that' today! I will PROCRASTINATE on the things "I WILL DO" at this early stage of making changes!
So - I changed it to present tense - "I AM LEARNING TOOLS........" (Instead of 'I will learn/follow the tools program'......sorry can't remember the exact words now that I've left that page). I also said the new 'present tense' statement out loud 3 times as I exited that particular learning area of the site.
I was actually surprised that the wording was in the future tense, especially since yesterday's readings MADE VERY CLEAR that using 'present tense' statements is akin to on-the-fly affirmations (easy to do - not much to stop and think about. You don't have to sit for any length of time 'creating' life-changing statements - just be aware of and rearrange your words and thinking).
I used to engage in meditation using affirmations - on a daily basis - one affirmation per day to concentrate on for the whole day - with a set of related affirmations (up to 4 more) that I would keep on an index card in my pocket and check throughout the day. I remember that this daily practice helped my self-esteem a great deal and am not sure why I stopped practicing in this area of self-improvement......obviously, I know what to add back into my life then, eh?
I haven't come across many surprises at the site yet, but I have DEFINITELY been made aware of POSITIVE ACTION and THINKING that I have been complacent about and forgetting to do! Even THIS is not a negative thing because - through the readings, I've learned that a change in MINDSET has to occur to make a good 'habit' stick......so I am working on attaining that positive mindset instead of 'just action.'
I practiced the meditation and affirmation actions for almost 2 full years - yet - I have been almost completely without those positive practices in my life for about 9 months now. I didn't understand before - how I could just forget to do (not find the time) for these things - but realize now that I need to examine what my attitude surrounding these practices is at this current date. I've actually MISSED the calm and focus that meditation combined with affirmations has given me in the past, but have been confused as to WHY I have trouble fitting such things into my daily routine.
I'm sure that I'm not really any busier than before.....certainly not EVERY DAY! So, this is an area I am attacking right away - and adding back into my daily routine.......WITH the right attitude changes - so that the change will last and not be 'just physical action.'
This site is a wonderful place for me to start putting together any 'positives' that I already know of......and help me 'checklist' the things I want to accomplish, change, and manage better in my life. Tools To Life has, in only 2 days, given me a kick-in-the-butt WAKE UP CALL......and I realize that no matter how much positive information or how many self-improvement techniques I thought I knew before........NONE OF THEM do me any good unless I IMPLEMENT THEM in my life - regularly and consistently.
Just thought I would share that through my blog.....

Great insight. Have a great day! Angie
Thanks for sharing your view. It has made me think about the things I too need to do on a daily basis to make life changes work.
