Letting go of memories

I just read a book entitled "The Memory Keeper's Daughter", which was given to me by my oldest daughter after I bought it for her. What a turn around!

What I receive from this was the final summary, that we cannot capture moments, but that each is a step to the next. Our lives are a mystery and the path remains unknown to us.

I was thinking of this all day, when I decided to start letting go of the memories that keep me attached to the past, and to believe that the future has great mysteries yet to be revealed. This book reminded me that when we hold on to the past, we block the future from unfolding in freedom and joy.

Thanks for sharing this.....

Hey Teresa,

What a beautiful thought, thank you for sharing it with us.

I once heard life described as like driving a car.  If we only look far ahead (the future), we'll miss something right here (this moment).  If we only look in the rear-view mirror (the past), we cannot see where we are going.

We can only experience joy in this moment.  We can't experience joy in the future, it hasn't gotten here yet.  We can't re-live joy from the past, it is gone.

Thanks for a great reminder to live in the moment.

I agree, this is beautifuly put and intriguing to think about. I also l like how it spurred you into making a change.

beautiful!

wow... beautiful! and a perfect thing for me to have read.

I have 2 daughters and love learning from their fresh perspectives. Even from the beginning, they have a fresh, new perspective of life, and if we respect that, we can learn from them as well.

I'm putting that book on my 'read' list. Guess that means I need to dust off my 'read' list first!
