Pulling My Socks Up

I read this term today - a functioning addict - and I realized that's what I've been for years.

Not a "glamorous" addiction like booze and drugs... nope, but a very modern, 21st Century one - online games and the internet.

The hours I've wasted by choosing distraction over the more challenging/reward aspects of life just makes me shudder....

But no more. I don't even know if anyone will read this so I'm writing it as much for myself as anyone else.

Here's all the things I want to deal with now I'm turning over a new leaf:

* my addiction to video games - their structure and simplicity can be so appealing in my weaker moments. I must stop playing them forever;

* a dependency on the internet - my laptop rarely gets turned off, and I spend hours a day staring at the screen;

* Email runs my life - there are currently 3420 in my inbox and I want to be clear of all of them and have it empty by the end of the day... think I'll take a look at some of the decluttering challenges...

This is just the beginning.......
