Study a hero like

Robert Redford. To study this hero I viewed all his films, some of what he's directed, and watched some interviews. It's been amazing, and fun, and I admire him even more.

Most of his roles are about a person of strong moral and ethical character struggling to overcome, or change, a bad situation such as a prison warden who brings hope and respect to the prisoners. He also narrates a gorgeous film called Sacred Planet, about honoring this earth. His political life, advocacy for the American Indian, as well as for the independent actor and artist via Sundance, are all about strength and conviction, too.

Something I understand about him now is that when he wakes up one day and decides he is THERE for a person, a group or a project, he is there. He's entirely reliable, devoted, and dependable. And so he has achieved significant success, quietly and steadily, as well as enduring family and friendships.

Pretty good for a guy who lost a college sports scholarship because of drinking and goofing around.

I didn't expect the added enjoyment of the many, many talents who appear in films with Redford. The early Marlon Brando, the very early Morgan Freeman, Jane Fonda, Debra Winger, Sidney Poitier and many others. And of course, it's fun to see that famous Redford smile.
