A rose by any other name...

It is true that creatures need a name. It seems to really connect us. No Name the furry Grey hero from the woods is beginning to fit into the home life here. He would like to have six siblings to toss and leap and play with, I think...but he is making due with us. Already he greets me at the door, and purrs whenever I pick him up. I'm his person.

He'll have some elf from the forest name?? Puck? Keebler. Oberon. Alfar. Elfric. Eragon.  For such little fellows Elfin names are awkward to say. Oberon? He was King of Elves. Such a big name for a little tyke. I was hoping for something that told of little Grey's brave stint in the forest, and his heroic survival, and his adorable face peering out from the brush.

Puck was Rudyard Kipling's English forest fellow. Shakespeare had Puck and Oberon. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings has Elves. I read that in Iceland to this day people are not entirely willing to say Elves do not exist. Iceland seems to have more magic and mystery in its landscape than most places. I was there for 24 hours once. My grandmother was born there. I fell in love with it. But their names for Elves are just not for No Name. And I can't name him Keebler, after the cookies made by elves. Can I?

He has a delightful way of suddenly prancing across a room on his toes...what's that ballet dancer's name? ... The lovely fellow who just passed away. Incredible dancer but you'll remember him from the movie Ghost.  No Name still has no voice. He opens his mouth and nothing comes out but a small "eep."

Well. We will have to wait, and let the name appear.

I've taken photos of him, finally. Not digital so I can't post them yet. This isn't him, in the image, but quite close.
