Hey Bird. Thanks for the drop-in. No battles today, the 9th anniversary of 9/11, the start of Jewish New Year, Iftar - the celebration for the last day of Ramadan and the start of a fresh new school year for children and teachers. My heart is full. Life is good.

How are things? BUSY!! Put it this way - just had our civil union ceremony (I'm now 'civilised'!) and a major pitch, working all hours, the same week. By the end of it I was almost divorced. All good now though so musn't grumble.. And you? What's happening in Wordbirdland?

fortune cookie say: chance favors those in motion

Hi! I'm so glad you stopped by. Writing and teaching are my deepest passions. I also deeply love birds, travel, photography, a good challenge, bicycling and a fiesty trivia game. Leave a boost, become a friend, use this site and engage with all your peers to the fullest: create the life you want.

I joined TOOLS because:
In 2005 I lived in New Orleans. I experienced Hurricane Katrina and afterward, needed community support and a boost back into life.
You are offered your dream job. What job is it?:
I write, I teach, I offer support and guidance to others dedicated to learning. If I am appreciated and given creative freedom, trusted in my integrity, and rewarded for my skills...DREAM job! Since it's perfection, I have stellar, funny, capable, amazing, committed colleagues. We have a mascot dog at the office. We're involved in something I can't wait to join every morning.
My favorite wild animal is:
Wild means untamed, free, in its natural state. If a creature is out there still wild, still free, I don't know its name, but I love that creature.
Why (describe as much as possible):
I like the independent and self-sustaining spirit. I like forbearance, and living out your nature despite pressures and struggles.
My favorite domestic animal is (if you choose dog be specific with breed etc):
They all have wonderful personalities and abilities. I'm enamored with the Great Pyrenees, of late. It's so huge, and so gentle.
Why:
My favorite animals are undomesticated. Whales and elephants, for example. They are gentle, strong in relationship, and wise...they understand life. I adore all birds...so funny and brave.
A famous Chef will prepare anything you want. What do you order:
A fruit salad. Followed by something rich with spices. Ethiopian. Made by Julia Child.
Why:
I'd want to see what happens to a simple dish in the hands of a food magician. I'd want to experience a dish too complex and exotic for me to make for myself. I used to go to an Ethiopian restaurant and the food was out of this world good, and interesting.
Five people either dead or alive you would have at your fantasy dinner party::
These are difficult times. So we need women and men from every country, from throughout history, who are peaceful, and visionary, who understand and love human beings and all the world without prejudice, who are powerful and strategic and fierce in their beliefs. Send me any five of them. Each with a different gift. Like intellect, art, invention, comedy and science.
Why:
We need some great Julia food and her wonderful humor. Then they have a long discussion about what to do with the current situation worldwide, and future of us and our planet.
If a pilot would fly you anywhere you want, you would go to:
Wow. I'd love this. I'd go everywhere possible. No, wait. I'd go somewhere impossible for me to go without this pilot.
My perfect slice of pizza is:
At a little restaurant where the owner comes to every table and says hello, and the one slice of pizza I order falls over the plate on both sides. Pineapple. It comes with a really good Greek salad.
You are at a bar. You order this drink:
 It's rare I'm in a bar. I don't order a drink because I'm not staying long.
You are at a coffee shop. What coffee or tea do you order:
I'm at a little Italian mom and pop in New Orleans. They have owned it for decades. Presumably it's still there. I order Italian expresso.
If a genie could grant you three wishes they would be (separate by commas):
 1. At age four I know my Bliss and I spend the rest of my life following it. 2. There are major advances in healing and medicine and all people have access to good, free medicine. 3. For 1500 years fortune favors the generous, strong and loving.
You are going on a long road trip and you can only bring three CD's. Which ones do you bring (separate by commas):
Joe Cocker "Up Where We Belong" Greg Brown "Bathtub Blues" and ...the Yaks. A New Orleans local band. These are all good highway, singalong and Feel Good CD's. I stop in several small towns to listen to their local live music.
If I could do anything for my neighborhood today, it would be:
Take out all the roads but one. In this one neighborhood, you'd walk, bicycle or take a streetcar to get around. Cars are banned. No parking ramps, no parking lots, no exhaust, no gas stations. It would revolutionize everyone's life. You can go outside the area, get your car and do stuff with it. Within a month we'd all be in better condition, have met the neighbors, spent a lot more time outdoors, and stop feeling the strain of noise and rush.
A sunset I remember:
One summer I devoted an entire month to watching the sunrise every morning. That was excellent.
Any character I could be from a movie, TV show or book would be:
An artist named Carr. A British woman from a "good" family who traveled into the Canadian rainforest many times during her life, to paint, and preserve culture and history.
Why:
She followed her passion no matter who said what. She explored, experienced, and treasured life. She appreciated her talent and didn't let it sit unused. She took risks. She befriended a culture others said she should shun.
